We decided that a Ford with a trip bucket, leaking cylinder and noise in the transmission wasn't something we needed. Put it up for sale. Sold with in 4 hours. Made a nice profit. Buyer was tickled pink, said his buddy could reseal loader cylinder and the transmission noise was not an issue for him. Next!

GP,
Now you know what you don't want when it comes to a loader.
I used a Farmall H growing up on dairy with a pipe loader. Trip bucket, one way hydraulics, Arm strong power steering.

If you build fences, you may want to look at a loader/backhoe to clear and level ground before building a fence.

Grandpa, you are like a cat. If you fall, you land on your feet and make money too. Keep doing what you love.

You was really lucky or good but getting out of that trap was a good move. Nothing there that you needed, got to be something else out there to spend your time on.

I know you like to flip stuff for a profit, but are we going to see your name down below in the buyer/seller feedback one of these days??
It's fairly easy to remain anonymous on here by using a handle. But all it takes is one person to tell a tale down in buyer/seller feedback, and give out your location or perhaps your real name, and you don't remain anonymous no longer. Of course you could probably re-enter here under new handle, but once identity and location is out there, it's out there.
Even if the guy was brought to light by you on condition as is before buying, I don't think I would be bragging on here what a good deal you found to buy, or about your headaches you got rid of by selling them for profit. Reading this post alone, I would think, would tick off both the seller to you, and the buyer to you of this tractor.
I'm just saying, other people read stuff on this public forum, and the wrong ones are probably not going to want to read about your money fist happy dance.
And that would be very likely due to the nature of this forum. This is a go to place for tractor info in general. If any of your sellers or buyers skiff the net for info, the net itself is going to lead them straight to here to read all that you posted. And they might not think it's as dang funny as you.
Just, thinking out loud. Have a good day.

All that is well and good, I expect anybody that buys something from me to know that I made a little money from the sale.

Well, I don't think any buyer really
expects to pay less than the seller
has in it. Except, maybe in those
circumstances where seller has item
overpriced, has to much money invested
in it themselves, or they not
factoring in an adequate amount of
depreciated value while they have
owned it.
I am talking about all aspects. You as
a seller for example. You'd like to
think you got as many dollars as you
could out of something, after you sold
it, wouldn't ya??? Rather not hear
about it, if you didn't? So, .....
probably wouldn't be to happy to hear
about leaving, say, a few hundred
bucks on the table?
I know this is going a little down the
what if, what if road. But I think
most sellers would not want to hear
that they sold something to cheap. And
most buyers would rather not hear that
they could of got something bought
cheaper, even if they paid a fair
price.
I guess my point here is, what is, is
what is, but might be middle man's
best interest to stay a little on the
quite side. As to not rub anyone the
wrong way by leaking to much info.

You guys and gals that like your relics all power too you. I like the modern conveniences. My 3910 is much more accommodating than my 4 cyl 2000 or 4000s were.

Redforlife..... I guess after thinking about it I probably actually lost my butt on this deal. 200 mile trip to buy it. 300 mile trip to buy parts. 9-10 hours in the shop ( wait double that, wife worked on it too). Tune up ,fluid change, all new wiring. Full disclosure to the buyer. Seller sold me a non- running tractor, that had sat for 10 years. He knew what he was selling,I knew what I was buying. New owner knew what he was buying. Nice profit I referred to was only $500. But after thinking about it I got ripped off and lost my butt.......thanks for ruining my weekend.

Grandpa like someone said a few days ago. I know Im trying to spend your money but with all the fence work you do as well as construction you should really look for a good skid steer. Besides having a loader that will do much more work than an old farm tractor you can dig post holes drive posts and lots of other things. Just add attachments as you need and can justify them. I bought a used Cat machine a couple of years ago with 1000 hours on it for 20k including a bucket a set of forks a post hole digger and a t post driver. If I had to give up this machine I would quit building fence. I sold my 3 point diggers after the first job with this machine. Just my opinion its worth what I charged you for it. Tony

Don't see the issue, everyone knows or should know when they buy a 40-60 year old tractor it ain't gonna be a new one,it'll have or has problems. So what, if you don't like that sort of thing stay out the market.Ole Bud Yingling that ran a salvage yard up in PA had the best sales deal,he'd buy tractors had no idea anything about them. The ones that would run he'd sell whole as is,he'd tell the prospective buyer drive it around all you like I'll keep putting fuel in it.Then if you want it come in the office and pay me,if you go back out and it blows up when you get ready to load it, I'll push it on the trailer.About as fair as anyone can get.

Well, OK. The reply sure sounds different than the original post. But, that's not what I was getting at. I think the point I was trying to make, somehow got missed.
I don't think there is any thing wrong at all with buying, selling, flipping, or even working on tractors. Or doing it with a profit in mind. Everyone knows that's how the world works.
My point was, it might not be ones best interest to be talking about details of these flips on here. Not, that you are in any way doing anything wrong. It might not be ones best interest to be telling how a tractor didn't work out for you, and it's off to the next guy. If a buyer did end up unhappy for some reason or nother (and I'm not saying that one even did), it probably wouldn't help things out for them to read on here that it was a flip. It'd just take one bad apple, to post a bad review.
I guess I'm being blamed for being the bad apple, for just suggesting that it could possibly happen. And possibly happen because of what one might read on here in regards to it being a flip.

Way I read it, two adults met on an agreed upon price. Evidently seller was happy or wouldn't have sold it. Evidently buyer was happy as they purchased and took possession. Why can't we "brag" a little about a good thing? Good job Grandpa!
