Spring ain't coming fast enough

I found a good IH 251 planter for the oldest son back in the fall. It came with a 3pt hitch on it but of course he had to have it capable of hooking to his 140. So..off to my fabrication friend to re-create a single point fast hitch hook up. Just got it back and now he's on his head to go to the field to plant corn...dang the frost and ice we're fixing to get. Lol.

Nice work. Hes going to have to make a lot of trips across the field to fill up those bins!

Yes it looks nice.
Does one need a 2 row corn picker, 2 row cultivator or a 2 row combine to go with a 2 row planter?

Yes it's original paint on it. An older gentleman bought it new right before IH discontinued the 251 models and didn't use it much. He always kept it in his garage. It had never been rained on till this last rain we had while at fabricators. We got one of the old 2 row Lilliston rolling cultivators ready for him to use. He already has a 2 row layby rig he can use on the 300 to sidedress the corn with. The plan is to pick it with the 6 row head that we have on the combine for the rest of the farm. I hope he'll run some regular rows come planting time or it'll liable to get interesting picking it.

Your boy better pack a lunch if he wants to use that planter to fill those bins with corn. LOL I like it. Bill

2 row planter you can use either a single row cultivator or 2 row but the 2 row must match the row width of the planter. Same with a 4 row cultivator you must use a 4 row cultivator or a single or 2 row will work. If the picker would be a 30 and the planter is set for 30 rows then it will work But you cannot get a corn head of 30 for a combine in a 2 row head. That 6 row head he will be plugging the head all the time as no one can drive perfect planting for that head to work if he is on either 30 or 40 rows. With luck you can combine 30 rows planted with a 2 row planter and the head for 3 30 rows, you might even get by with a 4 30 head but not a 6 row head and I don't know if they ever made a 6 row 40 corn head I have gotten by shelling corn planted with a 4 row 30 planter and a 3 row 30 corn head on a combine. For test plots they were able to mount a 2 row 30 snapper head for a forage harvestor on a MH SP35 selfpropeled combine but that combine was made for a 7' or 8' grain head or a 2 row 40 corn head. I did have a MH Sp35 machine with a 8 platform and 2 row 40 corn head. That MH sp35 machine was a selfpropeled version of the 35 PT pull type machine.
