Heated seats

Funny. A few years ago I went home to visit mom and she told me the car was running hot. A few questions later I discovered that it was not the driveline or coolant. She had the seat heaters dialed to the max. Quick fix.

My heated seats come on automatically when temps get around or below 40 and shut off automatically unless I reset them manually. Then I have to reset when I turn the car on again.

My back loves leather heated seats.
Only problem, I want to fall asleep.

We are such a spoiled/pampered society, myself included.

I had one set of grandparents who used an outhouse until about 1972. I think there was an actual need for a heated seat, but at least the seat was wood instead of steel.

Grandpa would probably disapprove today if he watched my tractor steering itself.

When I was growing up, dad remodeled our bathroom. Installed carpet. Mom made dad carpet down all the way back to the house...
The toilet paper holder was a bookshelf to hold the sears catalog.

Tell you what, I bought a car a month ago and it has heated seats. This is the first car I have ever owned with heated seats. I am surprised how much I am enjoying them this winter.

Well, I'm an old man who grew up needing every possible help to survive. Can't believe or even know how to use the conveniences of modern vehicles. I know I'm soon to be on my my out, but I'd just like to have a pickup like the 1971 GMC I had then.

We also got a new toy last fall , the vary last 2021 Jeep Cherokee anywhere remotely close to us and it was pretty well loaded . It has the heated seats and steering wheel that come on when outside temp dips below 40 degrees , i can take them for about five blocks before i turn them off . Now granted they warm the buns on leather seats on a cold morning and let you ease into the day with out the eye opening affect of a cold leather seat on a cold day . Learned that one back in the early 80's after i installed a Caddy leather seat in my 79 Ford F 250 when the spring wire around the top of the seat broke and went thru the back of my leg like and ice pick . i was given this caddy split bench seat that was full power both side free and with a little frame work to mount and a hot wire to power them they fit . One vary cold morning well below 0 and a ragging snow storm going on at around 3 Am still 3/4 asleep i go out and jump in that truck and when my cheeks hit that seat my heart stopped eyes came wide open in a flash i could not breath and came out of that truck like a shot OH my god it was COLD . back in the house and grabbed and army wool blanket to put down on the seat . Even with that high out put heater that would melt the rubber soles off your boots going full tilt it took a couple hours to get that chill out , Ah but wait till summer comes with leather seats.

I have heated seats in our Traverse and we love them on a cold wintery day. Only complaint is that they take a while to warm up, maybe four or five minutes. Some are instant heat that heat up as soon as you sit down in the vehicle

Hey now watch that . we took the plunge for a new ride last fall , darn thing cost almost what i paid for a 77 I H 4300 Eagle all decked out , it atleast made a living . This was a vary long and drawen out talking thinking process before we dove in . (1) if we kept the old car then i would need to update my scan tool , those are not cheap for a good one , (2) the getting down on the ground and rolling around under it was not the problem as gravity is working in my favor it was the getting back up and the three days to recover from a couple hour work was the problem (3) what ever went wrong and ya made the repairs they did not seam to last for more then a couple years and you were making the same repairs over . (4) anything to do with the anti loc brakes engine and trans a lot of those parts had to be programed by the dealer ( they got you where the hair is short ) . And when the car drop kicked us once again with the same problem that was just repaired a shade over two years ago that was going to cost us over two k to have the dealer do the work as that part had to be programed after install. I went with a NEW car / SUV . Would have rather found a new 68-69 Plymouth Road Runner as they were easy to repair , easy to work on , drove nice they were vary comfortable on long drives had the best brakes in the industry , they were fast to vary fast , not to bad on gas even at high speeds with the 3.23 gear , they were roomy , lots of trunk space and i do not need the BOOK to work on one as everything about that car is burnt into the old computer bank hard drive.

I'm padded well enough that I don't think I need heated seats (as long as they're cloth, not vinyl or leather) but with my hands I'd LOVE a heated steering wheel.

I have heated in my car when girl friend goes somewhere with me in this cold weather first thing she wants to know is seater heater ( heated seat) on?

Last year when we couldn't go out to eat we ended up ordering a lot of take out food. The heated seat was nice then, as it helped keep the food warm while taking it home.

Last winter (Northern Alberta Canada) my wife's Buick Enclave manufactured in Lansing Michigan USA heated seats worked just FINE!
Same said for the remote Engine start...

When I rode an Iron Horse, Goldwing, I bought Artic Carharts.
I bet they weigh 10 pounds. Got them with longer legs. Bet they will keep you warm. I would ride in winter if the roads were clean.

I normally buy a car or truck with the biggest engine and least options you can find because I tend to drive them longer than most people and I hate it when the extras quit working but are too expensive to have fixed - or you just can't even get it fixed. I went the other way on the last car I bought.

A year ago I bought a 2017 Ford Taurus Limited with 30K on the clock, the only options it doesn't have is AWD or the sun roof. It has options I never knew existed - let alone came on a Taurus. Keyless entry - if you have the FOB in your pocket the door unlocks when you put your hand on the handle - you avoid the work of hitting a button to unlock the doors. Heated and COOLED leather seats, remote start, power tilt steering, the seat rolls back and the steering wheel backs away automatically when you shut the car off to make it easy to get out of the car, when you get in and hit the start button the seat and steering wheel return to their previous location. If I get a text while I'm driving the radio reads the text to me. Navigation, TPMS, dual climate control, and other stuff I'm still learning about.

The only thing I don't like about this car is the previous owner put some cheaper tires on it (20 tires). The car is heavy and when it sits overnight the first couple miles in the morning the tires rumble because they get flat spots over night - a lot worse on Monday mornings if it has sat all weekend. Far cry from my farm truck 1992 F250 Custom with 5 speed, no air (from the factory) and a bench seat with an Indian blanket seat cover to hide the duct tape repairs....

My wife really likes my car - then she totaled her mini van. The one she totaled was our second Kia, big kid hauling vehicle but was kind of plain even when it was new. Her new Kia van has all leather, power doors, heated seats, navigation, and a DVD player that hangs from the roof, sun roof, TPMS, PW, PL, PS, traction control, stability control, and shockingly a 117 MPH governor on the engine - most (like my Taurus) are right around 105 MPH or less.
