Eliminating draft control

Does anyone know how to do away with draft control on Massey Ferguson 135. I read that you can weld a 5/8 nut to the end of the shaft that goes through the spring. Will this work? I will never use a plough with this tractor and it lifts a bush hog just fine but struggles with lifting with a boom pole.. I replaced this spring and shaft this summer probably not adjusted correctly.. so I just want to do away with the draft control ..any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You don't say what weight you are trying to lift or the length of your boom pole behind the arm pins. Because of the distance away from the end of the lift arms, when lifting something on the end of a boom pole multiplies the force it takes to lift that weight, just like using a cheater pipe on a wrench. It is easy to overload a 3-point lift with a boom pole. The brush cutter, it lifts when properly hooked to the 3-point arms, maybe too much weight for it to lift on a boom pole, even using just position control.

Here is a link to a 135 operator's manual. It tells the settings for the lift to be in either draft or position control. Make sure those are set correctly for position control.

How many choices are there for pinning the top link to the tractor? You should be using the lowest one with those attachments.

Struggles lifting a round bale of hay also. But if I remove
top link arm and use a chain connect it to the hole under
the top link with a chain it lifts the bale of hay easily no
problem.

Draft is all the way up the problem is in the control spring .. there is a sensor/flapper behind that top link spring that senses when the spring is pushing it in or out.. Im thinking it needs to be in to have full power to lift .. so if not set correctly which its obviously not. It wont work correctly. Just trying to eliminate it

(quoted from post at 09:27:30 01/09/22) Make a bracket to lock out the draft spring, using the upper diff case holes so the draft spring cant' pull out, which shuts the pump off..
his is how I did it on Ford 8N, with 2 straps & pin and attach other end of straps to seat mount.

NO that is not your problem , what your problem is is and old pump getting weak and you ar demanding to much of it . when you want to hang something off a BOOM POLE you are just multiplying the weight by getting away from the tractor just like usen a cheater pipe . Those old 3 point hitches will not lift that much even when new . Between the pump getting old the pressure relief getting weaker over the years she is like you and getting weaker each day , has nothing to do with draft sensing has everything to do with leverage.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Leave the chain in place. I dont understand why, if you have the wherewithal to change the spring and shaft, you dont have the ability to adjust it and make it work properly.

What good does them straps do???? Draft on 8N only works on compression of spring. A shredder , boom pole . bale spear pulls out. Has internal stop. Thats what 3 cornered plate and shaft with yoke does.
Besides draft only works when lever is moved to draft. Dont see to many hydraulic relief setups anymore.

To answer your original question, this is what I did and position control works fine. Some context first: I bought a 135 last summer and the position lever didn't work at all. I could only use the lift arms with draft control lever. I just took the lift cover off this week and here is what I found: The draft rod that goes from the draft linkage to the control spring was missing. Both the lift linkage and the draft linkage springs were inoperable because who ever was working on it before left the cotter pins in the rods with springs on them, so the rods couldn't travel through their respective holes as intended. The draft linkage was bent badly.
So, I ordered the draft linkage from India but can't wait 4-6 weeks to deliver them because I need my snow blower now. Therefore, I deleted the draft control by removing the spring on the draft control linkage and securing the rod using a cotter pin which traps the end of the rod in its hole on the lever support bracket assembly. Pictures below might explain better. One caveat is that you need to adjust the lift control using the draft control adjustment bolt. That is to get the 3 lbs you need at lever assembly by the dash pot.
Anyway, it works until I can get it repaired in the spring. Sorry for the late reply. This just happened to me.
