Farmall M steering issue

M is a narrow front. When it is jacked up it steers just fine. Let down on the ground and it will only steer using a 2 x 4? Any ideas? Thanks..

The shaft (Upper Bolster) that has a thrust bearing on it (part #43) it provides the pivot point for the weight of the tractor. It is likely worn or broken. Often not lubricated. Another possibility is part 92. a deep groove bearing that controls the Worm gear.
I would expect to replase bushings (upper and lower) parts 15, 20, 44, and seals. We can help with the repair as needed. Jim

Thrust bearing out in bottom of bolster worn out.

Do you mean the steerig wheel wont move the front wheels when its down?
