(quoted from post at 12:19:54 01/05/22) This was a prime reason that Ford Motor Company just appointed John C May, CEO of Deere, to their Board of Directors.

So, Ford's CEO has too much time on his hands.

Ford's CEO is Jim Farley. By all reports doing a fine job. At least he hasn't been fired yet. Ford wanted input from the company that seems to have perfected autonomous
machines.

Other major companies have developed driver less tractors but never made them for sale. This will be the first one to be placed on the market for purchase. The tractor is going to be controlled by your smartphone once they give you the app. If you want to plant corn @ 1 AM or 3 AM or 5 AM the tractor can be directed to do that. Run 24 hrs at a time. It doesn't get tired late at night like humans. Set planting depth from your smartphone. If seed depth is wrong change it from your smartphone. Check the tractor fuel level from your smartphone. Check your seed remaining in the seed hoppers from your smartphone. A geo-fence is set on the onboard field maps in the tractors computer working with your smartphone so it can't go outside your field boundaries or drive over to the neighbors fields. The 6 onboard camera's see objects in front of the tractor and to the sides automatically stop it from running over other equipment, pick up trucks, fences, rocks, or people. It's coming to agriculture's future this fall 2022.

It does all those things right up until it has its electronic breakdown. Then it does absolutely nothing until Mother Deere gets around to soaking you for thousands of dollars in repair fees to replace a $.25 widget.

Deeres latest plan is a 3 year lease with all maintenance
and repairs included.

Not sure what their plan is after the first 3 years.

It will be interesting to see what happens when one of them gets stuck in the mud..Will they call another autonomous tractor to pull them out and whom will hook up the chain..

I wonder if that would allow a farmer to control an autonomous tractor on the grain cart from the seat of the combine. Other options could be to run one or more autonomous tractors from one tractor seat: like an autonomous tillage operation ahead of a planter; or a small autonomous tractor with a hay rake ahead of the baler while another autonomous tractor with a loader collects and stacks/loads the bales.

What happens when the signal quits like in the GPS for guidance will it stop or just keep going till it gets to the end of the field and what about poles or other obstacles in the field like where the field side has a change or the catch basin for tile sticks up in the middle of the field. I think all this auto self driven vehicles has a ways to go still. I don't think I will see it in my life time of farming or I will probably be out of business by then.

This is how we will get to self driving cars.

The technology will be worked out on farms and in mines and quarries.
