Jamesway Barn Cleaner

Anybody have an old inactive Jamesway bar cleaner and willing to sell me parts? In Minnesota here. I went to use it today and the large cast iron gear in the powerhead broke in two.

Is the other half in pieces?? Or in one piece as this half is??
I had a caste iron pulley break in half such as this did. Had it brazed, and haven't had any problems with it.

I did not inspect it too closely yet, the piece in the picture came flying out from under the cover. To be honest, I was kinda ticked off and cold at the time and just walked away. My first thought was brazing, or weld with cast rod. The gear in the photo is very large though, maybe 13 or 14 inch diameter and quite thick. Might be a job to repair.

My 2 went to junk after barn burned in 1972 . I do have the cylinder and pump for the hydraulic version of the shuttle-stroke.

Id check with Jason at Lange machine shop in hector. Hes very good at repairing cast gears. Looked like youd be about an hour from there. Good luck!

Mike I believe that is a Super 500 unit. Valmetal in Canada still makes a similar unit. I worked for a Jamesway dealer 35 years ago and did convert a few Badger units to the Jamesway galvanized chutes. I figure you have flat link chain the Patz might be hook link. My old bosses son might have that gear but shipping is probably a killer from N.Y.

KBS in plainview mn is a jamesway dealer they would by and refurbish jamesway equipment their number is 507 534 3855. they may have what you need or know where used units are for sale

unless the rest of it is in a 100 pieces that is a very repairable gear.

If you are unable to find a replacement send me an email and I can forward you my business card.

My guess is it bolts on the same or similar. Post a pick and I'll look if it's close. I think they are all pretty close. I know this one has about a 3 channel it sits on and boots go through that.

I'm sorry, mine is a badger, not patz. Here is a pic of the gears, they may be the same. Either way you can have the whole thing.

It is the flat link chain as well, the mention of that is what got me thinking so I went and looked.

I know of a complete and entire power head that has not been used since 1994. Located in south western Ontario .
The bearings/bushings are in good shape because they were always lubricated . Took the oil cups out and replaced them all with grease fittings .

The breaking points that I can see all look to be new breaks. Is there a jam or bind somewhere to cause that?

I'd be looking for something like that before I ran a new or repaired gear.

Jon I will take you up on that offer, it looks very similar doesn't it. I gather you are north of the Twin Cities? i don't really need it every day so I will just let the manure pile up til the weather improves. I will email you and thank you !

Mike you will have to re drill the base. Hopefully Jon still has the slide and adjuster thats bolted to chute. Like 5 bolts hold it to the center part of the chute. Going by my memory and that seems to not be as good as it once was. Seems like there are a couple pieces. A spacer about 3 feet long and the piece with the adjustment bolt.

Mike : Just noticed your post; if the badger head does'nt work for you ; I have 2 Jamesway heads ; one older yellow one ; & a newer orange [think its a 500 model] one.....I'm about 65 mi from New Prague....
