Cultimulcher in fall chiseled ground

I usually chisel plow my bean stubble in the fall, followed by a springtime pass with a field cultivator then a Harragator/crow foot packer. Could I pull a cultimulcher in the spring over the fall plowed ground and save a few trips across the field? Never used one before. Trying to save a little bit of time/fuel costs.

Leave the ground rough. It will catch. More moisture and freeze out.
Roll in the spring.Rolling in the fall can can seal up the ground preventi g it from drying out to work in a timely manner.

Yes it will work for corn. I have not found a one pass tool for bean ground yet. Tried Disks Field Cultivators mulch finishers all needed at least 2 passes to get bean ground smoothed out to be able to cut on it. All a packer did was push the stones down so they were close to level with the top.

What Deta Red says plus I would like to add it will work up much nicer in the spring after freeze/thaw cycles. I think even just the weight of the tractor on chiseled ground in above average moisture conditions is asking for trouble.

If the ground is dry enough it will work fine for either corn or beans. If the ground is wet, either wait for it to dry or use some other tillage first. Don't try to pull the cultimulcher directly behind the tillage tool you're using to open up the ground. Let it dry a day or two before cultimulching. Some use rollers. But that would require aditional investment. You already have a cultimulcher. At least give it a try.

Usually, the fall chiseled ground is too rough for a cultimulcher to be the first tool in the spring. Typically, the first pass is with a disk or field cultivator and if dry enough may pull a roller or cultimulcher in back of the first tool. Rule of thumb here is dry enough for the implements to stir dust. At the very least any soil tilled needs to readily break apart with little effort in your hand.

Fall plowed then spring harrogated, then made 2 passes with cultimulcher, then tied cultimulcher behind easy flow spreader with small seed attachment to sow cover crop oats and alfalfa. Smoothest hay field I ever made. Then did not till it for 5 yrs.

Haven't tilled soybean ground for corn in 20 years ,but have used a roller after planting to push down stones .

Unless you have sand not unlike we have here in northwest Ohio, Auglaize, Shelby, Logan, Allen, Mercer, Van Wert, Hardin & Hancock counties that is clay keep that cultimulcher OUT OF THE FIELD unless you like trying tp plant in crushed stone as that is what you will get to plant in long after you should be done planting. Field cultivator or spring tooth harrow when top ground surface is dry enough to work but under still too wet. You do not want any packer on field untill you have too many hard clods you need to break up for planting after optiom planting is over.
