Daughter dropped off her generator with some fuel issues so I took advantage of it to get the grandson some shop time and heavy equipment experiance. He went home black with shop dirt and smelled like diesel fuel, successful day at tech school I thought?? but she was less impressed for some reason??

Experiential Learning is the finest most memorable and profoundly rewarding method of gaining appreciation for reality.
Keep doing it and enjoy with him every chance you get. Jim

Lol when my oldest was about 8-9 years old he lowered the hy-rail wheels on my company RR pickup when I wasnt looking.and couldnt get them back up.well while they have to learn theres some things you really dont want them touching!

Brings back memories of hanging out in my grandpa's shop, and reminds me to never miss the opportunity for my grandsons to spend time in my shop no matter how important the work is. Thanks for posting!

Good on you Poppa,

I didn't have a father or grandfather to mentor me when I was a boy, but when I was a teenager a man who owned a garage took me under his wing. He had a tremendous influence on me. Thank God for men who will take the time to work with a boy.

Good looking boy teach him to say KUBOTA and he will turn out great LOL. ALMOST the first words out of my grandsons mouth was BOTA, now days at 44 he is running the show. Over the years there is not a job at that shop that he has not done. Hands on experience.. Keep that boy around he will learn fast.

Butch, what's that large white thing behind your grandson in 2nd pic? Almost looks like a milling machine, but don't see a table.

Yes that's a Jet Bridgeport type mill. The
table is just about at the top of the
Grandsons head.

Well it's better than the husband that decided to overhaul his motorcycle engine on the kitchen table......with a hot water heater in the corner of the kitchen running on gas! Course when mammas aren't happy, the house isn't happy...I learned that a long time ago when I told my mother in law to be that her daughter was 18 and I was going to marry her and she couldn't stop me. Well it was one bumpy road but it got done...the marriage. She didn't like my daddy and hence me due to an advancement he made toward her in jest (not jest to her) at a church social.
