Small clumps in my hay. It's a dark green pointed stem and has an oval cross section and pithy inside. No leaves, just the stalk.

If its the same thing that grows down south yes it grows in wetter areas.if you put a lighter or use a weed burner on it,it will burst into flames it forms some kind of flammable gas in the tubular stem/lower part of the plant and no Im not kidding

If it has a white foamy marrow inside the stems it is a plant whichs latin name is juncus effuses. I dont know the English name for it. In the old days it was used as a wick in wax candles.

I think 4xMF is right. I have it here too in certain hay fields, mostly wet ones.

4xMF, you got it. I searched on the name and it seems to be sold by nurseries for ornamentals. Can grow two to four feet high although I've never seen it more than a foot tall, but then it's in the hay so easily hidden. That stuff has been puzzling me for a long time.

(quoted from post at 15:30:28 01/01/22) Tussock. I think it is also called nut sedge. It grows in damp spots.

That's what it looks like to me. We get it in wet spots, kills off pretty easy.

It is a rush species. It could be Soft Rush, see provided link attached.

There is a species of rush that grows here, mainly seen in areas of traffic and compacted soils, it is Path Rush. https://www.everwilde.com/store/Juncus-tenuis-Seed.html It is small in stature compared to other rush species.
Soft rush

It grows in any swampy spot in the meadows over here. Only hay cutting or bush hogging twice a year will keep it from taking over from the grass. The cattle won't eat it on pasture but they seem to tolerate some when it is in the hay.
