diesel quit - mystery solved

My NH died like it was out of fuel but I just put in 100 gals. Figured filters so I replaced the in-line filter first, which is the WIX clear plastic bowl $5. Still quit so replaced pre-filter & primary filter (it was time anyway - $100). Still quit. I can see the in-line filter from inside the cab so noticed it looked odd. Turns out the plastic base of the paper folds came loose or failed somehow & the plastic disc base was squashed up against the top & had pushed all the paper folds so they blocked the fuel line coming out the top! Like an accordion the paper had shut off the fuel. Now the engine was off, no fuel pump pressure on the paper & it accordioned back to its original position so it looked like everything was normal. Trying a Microgard filter this time altho the Wix filters had worked prefectly at least 6 times before.

Wix has been bought off by the same people who, I believe, make Hastings. Chances are this, for you at least, this might be an indication of what not to buy in the future.

I don't care who makes filters.
It's all about quality control.
Nothing is perfect. Sometimes things fail.
Sometimes POO HAPPENS.
Glad you solved your problem.

Yes.....
Five years ago.

I was told by local koi manager that hastings had been bought by baldwin who made very good filters 40 years ago, but I havent used them for that long, so like everything else I guess they are not the quality they used to be.
