So about 9 hours left as of today (Thursday, 16th) and the 861 Ford that I posted about a couple of weeks back has met the reserve and now sits at $15,000. A lot of money but I'm sure the buyer thinks it's worth every penny, certainly presents well to look at .....link below .....

Golden jubilee emblem??? First year production?? 50th anniversary??

I tried to buy my uncle's Ford 861 a couple years ago. Apparently others wanted it far worse. It went up to $15,000. I can't remember if it brought that or the auctioneer was hollering for that. I walked away at that point.

''Both front headlamps are said to be operable.''

Wow, it really IS fully restored!

I wonder how much more it would bring if somebody at the auction house could actually pull out the knob and confirm that the headlights work?

Yes, it looks good but there is nothing special about this tractor.

No power steering, no power adjust rims, no pie weights, no front weights, no remote valve(s). My 64, 4000 has all of these things in addition to a high compression 192 CI engine good for 65-70 PTO HP and a matched set of duals with 6 new tires. I cannot imagine selling it for $15K.

More importantly, there is a great deal of vague language and out right mistakes in the description.

One must wonder what things are like inside where not visible.

Still, more power to the owner who appears ready to get $15K less fees.

Good points Dean, but the Hemmings online auction site is essentially a car and truck site, I follow it daily and I seldom if ever see tractors up for grabs, and the Hemmings 'ad writer' (who's unlikely to be a tractor guy of any kind) is at the mercy of the sellers description, which in this case is some kind of a dealer who is flogging it for the seller. The fees to get your vehicle into the auction are quite cheap, only $100 and nothing after that. BUT you must make their selection cut, they don't list everybody that applies apparently, they pick and choose. There is a 5% buyers fee, once again not unexpected or unreasonable these days I don't think. If your vehicle doesn't sell at the auction, you have the choice of putting it on their online for sale list for an additional six months at no charge. I think the whole think is not much more than an advertising thing to get people to follow Hemmings ..... and they are considered the 'bible' of collector vehicle sales publications in the world (according to them anyways).
