8550 engine had 24 valves, two turbos and dual exhaust stacks.

Many years ago I had a chance to buy an 8550 with a blown engine (that was COMMON) and wanted to re-power it with an 855 Cummins.

Of course LIFE (and lack of funds) got in the way and it didn't happen!

That would have made a heck of a tractor out of it (until the transmission let loose).

THAT IS NO SMOKE!! TURN 'ER UP!! It is quiet. A few years ago some of the regulars here disagreed with a statement I made on how much a turbo quiets a motor down.

(quoted from post at 23:23:59 11/27/21) Sounds like it purrs to me

"Sounds like it purrs to me"

EXACTLY, SV!

That was the "whine" part of my comments when it smoothed out and the turbo spooled up a bit.

Are the transmissions bad in these ? Quire a few Allis-Chalmers around here with bad engines . The neighbor had a d21 that he bought with a bad rear end he put three more rear ends and it was out again he sold it
