How were wagons unloaded, presuming there is an elevator in the middle under the tower? That would have been
pre 1950's and the general use of V boxes as we know them? Would the load be backed in and pitched into the
elevator? Small engine running the elevator?

There are doors on both ends so the wagons could pull through. The bucket elevator had a trough in the floor that was covered to allow the wagon to pull through and then the cover was lifted. Some you would shovel the wagons off, some had a mechanical hoist that would lift the wagon by the front wheels to dump into the elevator trough. Power could be hit and miss engine or electric motor if juice was available.
