Have tach and cable but can't find a place to connect. Z134 gasoline engine, converted to 12v. This was dropped at my shop after many hands over many years. What am I missing ?

The Ferguson and MF models used a tach drive at the back of the generator on the Z 134 Continental engine, both 6 and 12 volts. There's a Delco alternator that used the
gearbox too, used on late MF 175 and 180 diesels. Some AC 301 diesels used that alternator too.

As said, it originally connected to the drive on back of the generator.

There are alternators with the tach drive on back, or with some machining it can
be added to the existing alternator.

A couple of obstacles though, the alternator may have a smaller pulley, which will
make the tach read fast. Also it will be a tight stretch to make the factory cable
reach the shorter alternator.

I've used the MF 175/180 alternator, it's not that much shorter for the cable to work fine. Far as speed goes, the generator pulley will also fit the alternator to keep the tach speed same as the generator was. Engine MAY need sped up some after starting to turn the alternator on though.
