Question about 1965 farmall 706 diesel.

Hello I decided to buy the 706 the d282 has around three thousand hours on engine. I hired a tow service to bring my tractor home yesterday when the tractor was being pulled on to bed the left rim shattered. While they were pulling tractor backwards onto bed I noticed the left wheel did not roll but the right wheel did. The brake was lifted up all the way. The tractor was in neutral. The rim and tire was removed from tractor on the left side. When holding on to the rear cast hub it would move in both directions couple inches. Did this tractor have the spider gears and if so do both tires have to be on the ground for it to roll when being pulled.

Are you absolutely positive the tractor was in neutral?

What do you mean by shattered? Please give some more detail. Did the cast hub and spokes shatter
and break or did the rim break?

Yes, this tractor has spider gears in the differential.

Only the rim the tire is on shattered. All else is good shape.

Welcome to YT! Sorry if this is obvious but the tractor is new to you. It
has a park lever that needs to be in the proper position
for the tractor to move. I think it is on the side of the
dash by the brake pedal. Unfortunately I cannot tell
you the proper position, originally it had a decal to
inform you. Hopefully someone will chime in. I will link
the diagram of it from the CNHI online parts website, if it go the right place section H-16. By the way from that link you can view all the parts diagrams for your tractor. If there is not a return link to ..706 tractor.. then go up in the search bar and select model. Enter ..706 tractor.. and search. If you are a young buck you probably could have figured that out. If your park was disengaged I will second the brakes are probably stuck.

Roger has the answer. The brake was likely left applied and got rusted to the expander and stationary friction surfaces. All is not lost. Jim

The brakes don't stay applied on the 06,56,66 series they are hydraulic and release with no pressure to keep them applied. Now the Park brake is a lever between your feet on the lower part of the dash so to speak. Needs to be pulled up to release and pushed down to engage. If it was engaged and held it would probably cause one tire to slide while one turned much like if one brake is stuck. Now for the brake it could be rusted so it is stuck though not left engaged. As for the rim. I am guessing it fell apart since it is rusted pretty badly from the sounds of it. A new rim is in order or a good used one will work also. If the brake housing is removed and the wheel will not turn you will have to dig deeper to find your issue. The entire brake disc's and all comes off with the 6 bolts and the one through the top of the platform. Be careful not to twist it off. Water and dirt gets down in the casting if it has been left outside and will rust it in there. Heat may be your friend there.
