Corn harvest

I started opening up a couple of my cornfields yesterday and today.Seems to be yielding very well.Makes me think I need a 3 row instead of the 4 row...Nope,I'll stick with the 4 row.1965 JD 95 squareback with 443 cornhead. It's the combine of my dreams.Started out with an old 55 round back/334 cornhead.Later 'upgraded to a late 45/313 .Always wanted a 95,was finally able to buy this one abouy 10-12 years ago.Hauled it from South central Kansas.Added the 443 and the qt feeder house.Been a great combine,no serious break down and farm few minor ones.Only thing better would would be a diesel 95 with hydrostat trans.
Or a 1420/1440 Axial flow.Love that 95!

Same down here in west central Missouri, father in law has a 95 corn special, same cornhead setup as you. Hard to hold it back in good corn, but didn't have any good corn this year, lol....
My 16 yr old helping clean up at the end.

I have the same truck.68 C50/12ft box.350 engine.Good little truck!BTW my 95 has the old 217 engine,but it doesn't lack for power.As you said,hard to slow it down.It just goes....

A good friend has a later and more worn 95 with the big303 engine and 335 head.We have run side by side, they both perform the same.He hasn't used it in 5-7 years.I will most likely eventually buy it from him.

A friend of mine had a nice 45 years ago that I should have bought. We used to have tons of Gleaners around here, but now I think I have one of the very few left. I think it's a 1971 F with the 292 engine

Steve, it sounds like you must have had adequate water. Weren't you on allocation early in the year?

My 95 is setting outside the shop to be washed and then start on a complete rebuild. I am eliminating the variable speed cylinder drive and replacing it with a chain drive and going through the entire machine. Tom

A few years ago, while my Father-in-law was on scale at elevator, some out of area fellow came in scale office, due to the line
and burst out and exclaimed that he had seen this guy going slow picking corn on our blacktop,
with an old JD combine. Elevator owner said yeah that's Elmer he raises some good corn, and his combine
gathers it all in, that's why that Red Chevy is there on the scale, the guy starts glowing white with
humility, and Elmer my(Father in law) speaks up from the crowd, Yeah, this truck and that combine, their both paid for too!
the guy wheeled around and headed out to his truck in line! GG
