2 cycle oil in diesel fuel

Question for those of you who put 2 cycle
oil or transmission fluid or ??? in your
diesel fuel for additional lubrication. How much do you add, a quart
to a 50 gallon tank? A pint? Something
else?

we add 1gallon per 18 gallon tank on our 7.3 turbo ford since new . runs great , bulk tanks for tractors and dozers get 10 gallons to 250

1 gallon per 18 gallon tank???? Makes for some pretty expensive fuel.

I use about 2 oz. per 5 gallons in our JD 4600, been doing it for almost 20 years, no problems. I don't think more would hurt anything, but probably not necessary, and make more smoke.

Hot Shot's Secret LX4 LUBRICITY EXTREME is like $70 a gallon and treats 1,280 gallons of fuel at 1 oz. per 10 gallons.

Walmart Super Tech TC-W3 Outboard 2-Cycle Engine Oil is like $20 a gallon and treats 128 gallons of fuel at 1 oz. per gallon.

$70 of specialty versus $200 of home remedy to treat 1,280 gallons of fuel.

hat are the engine maker's recommendations in regards to fuel additives?

he engine maker thinks they're all nuts.

use CenPeCo fuel additive in your bulk tank, then you won't have to spend that walmart money
made in Ohio, for gas or diesel. Father in law been using since 80's 11 whites/ olivers, one Red, one JD 95combine,
and a White 8900 combine, and three chevy 1978 pickups say he's doing just fine.
Comes in 5 gal pails or jugs.

es, the question was prompted, because that is what I suspected.

Jim Jessup wrote the service manual on the 'B' series cummins as used in Dodge trucks. He told me on my 95 that if I did not use some lubrication in the fuel I would at some point have to walk home.I have had three customers with pre 07 diesels that had injection pump problems that were solved with auto trans fluid added to the fuel. I use about 16 oz to 35/40 gallons. So far no problems.

Saved an injection pump on an 8410t John Deere . It idled like an alcohol funny car . I dumped a gallon of 15w40 In the fuel and put it on the chisel plow and 12 hours later it ran like new again

we use a cheap hydraulic oil ; diesel fuel no longer has the lubricity that it had when our older diesels were new [ for lubrication of injection parts] . we started adding hydraulic or auto fluid in the 80s. the cost of oil is minimal compared to fuel injection rebuilds.

Why do some people go for what they hear or the favourite family recipe ? How about a lab test and find out what actually does work ?

I put a pint of 2 cycle oil in my 25-30 gallon tank of diesel--it eliminated the injection plungers on my Cats from sticking after a winter shutdown---I also leave the throttle open a bit

Very good thread!
I used to be stuck in the Diesel fuel is wonderful for preservation camp. Not at all anymore.
Something changed. Some guys say ATF changed hence the 2-cycle oil replacement.
I had a transmission input shaft soaking in older Diesel for a month to soften the last bits of old grease in the big ball bearing.
Sure the grease was softened but there was a layer of rust on top of the bearing. It was submerged! Came off with toothbrush but still.
And the goop (algae) growing in the tank and filters that eats the rubber parts...
Does some oil keep the algae at bay?
"Can you use Marvel Mystery oil, I have heard of people using this in small engines"
Some will say MMO is a waste of money but others have used it to good results. Myself included.
I let a IH UD-16 go so long one of the two plungers in the pump stopped. Gave it a good drink of MMO and it woke right up.
Tight valve stem clearances or gummed up engines come to mind along with gummed-up hydraulics.
Much more to say but I'll hold my fingers.
