I did not want to take over the post below: So: My story on jelling fuel was winter of 1067-8. I was stationed in Germany living in quonset huts, they had fuel oil heaters every so often down the center. Came a real COLD spell and the oil jelled = no heat. Had to break out the sleeping bags to sleep, was a cool night for sure and a lesson on fuel jell.
Happy Veterans Day, tomorrow, Joe

In N MN most people have there oil tanks in the basement, then you can burn no 2 fuel, cheaper and more heat per gallon. Many have switched to propane now, but that stops vaporizing at -44F!

I wonder what they do way up north where it can 50 to 60 below with there propane tanks wonder if there in side a heated shed or something ?

Usually it doesn't stay that cold long enough for the liquid to get cold enough to stop vaporizing, but it does happen. If you need a lot of gas in cold weather they have tanks with vaporizers on the bottom, a small gas burner to heat the liquid.
