After walking through the bush/woods and seeing so many dead ash trees . And how oil pipelines are being closed.
It appears the tractor , trailer, chainsaw and splitter are going to get a workout .

Here on my Farm in Pennsylvania I have 90 some acres in Hard woods
and many Ash , started to die about 5 years ago
nice wood to use in my wood burner

I have a few ash trees and after loosing a couple, I think I will make firewood out of the rest of them.

Neighbor got tired of treating his trees. Cut two down yesterday.
Said he better do while he still can. Getting old.

We are in out third year of ash tree destruction by the ash borer. I have a couple of large ones
to work into firewood this winter.

You guys are lucky to have trees on your property, and can just go out and cut fire wood. I have to scrounge for wood. In the last 40 or so years I have
managed to get all I need. I have a couple tree companies who will drop off wood also. Bring on the high fuel prices I'm ready. Stan

15 acres of hardwood bush here . It is starting to recover . In 1976 some greedy swine logged it down to saplings . If an 8ft 4x4 could be sawed out of tree , they cut it down .
The ash seem to be amongst the largest , typically 12-15 at the base .
At least the stuff is dry and ready to burn. .

We've heated exclusively with wood since 1976. We also heat our domestic water with an outside boiler. Someone said the fuel prices are going up. I hadn't noticed. I hauled three one-ton loads to the boiler today.

Ash makes nice lumber too. We have used it for all sorts of building from polebarns to gates. Does not take weather well will rot in 10 years as sawed lumber. Otherwise good for lots of wood jobs. We've used it for the plates to hold the rafters/trusses girts on the poles fasten siding and rafter pieces will split fairly easy for wood in the fire also. Been using ash for decades. Most of it is used or gone from bore.

Greedy swine? I take it you didn't own the land then, so it's was someone elses, and they chose to get some $ out of what they had. That's being a "greedy swine"?

P.S. Got all mine moved into the basement yesterday. Big cherry went down in he yard back in May. It was mostly dead, nice and dry now and some maple and ash. I have nearly enough for next year already split and stacked. Last year had none and went through two 1 ton pallets of eco-blocks. OK but it doesn't burn the same.

Just a warning to everyone, I have been cutting the dead ash trees on our place and I have never seen trees so
brittle and prone to splitting, please be careful with them.(I have been cutting and pruning trees for the last
40yrs,these things are uniquely dangerous)
