Leece Neville, that is what modern combines are using. I think trucks used them too.
Looks much bigger than a Delco. Would take a lot of space on the side of the 3020 engine!

That is because they are pulling air through them for cooling. So out in the dusty fields its hard to say because of that. Might have to build an air filter around them , lol

I've had good luck with the Delco alternators on the 90 series Case and GM vehicles. Combine and Magnum are running bigger Bosch alternators and I've had to replace both of them at least once.

Unless you really mind changing them out once in a while the Delco 10SI's or 12SI's or clones thereof can be bought CHEAP on the 'net and if you get a year or two out of them what the heck?

And, yes, there's some "better" alternators out there that will last two or three times as long but they'll cost you five to ten times more $$$.

Blowing them out on occasion helps a lot with durability. Dirt and dust then make juice causes heat the worst enemy of most things. I blow the alternator out on the combine every time I blow the radiator out. Oil and fuel from tractors will do them in fast also. Then I look at our old tractors and the alternator on the 574,674,806have all been on there about 10 to 40 years. Just changed the one on the 806 was on there for many years. 674 looks like it might be the original though I would be surprised if it was. 856 has the old square regulator model will finally be getting changed if the battery does not stay up after my battery change over.

SV,
Before Auto zone came to town I would rebuild my alternators and starters.
Lifetime warranty put an end to my rebuilding. Auto zone also put and end to the over priced private owned parts stores. Sadly those private stores had great machine shops to do my engine work, bore, rebuild heads, cranks, cans. I miss that. I no longer rebuild engines.
I only buy lifetime parts at the ZONE. I keep receipts in glove box, just in case they have a computer failure.

Do you have Auto zone? Other places may have lifetime warranty too.

If your using 3 wire alternators, run the excite wire through an oil pressure switch. The switch will open when the engine stops (no oil pressure) and remove the excite power from the alternator. MF used this system on many models. Pull cable to shut off the fuel, Key switch only operates the starter, oil pressure switch controls power to alternator and gauges.

I've had good luck with Motorola brand alternators. The old combine had a Delco on it and it was a miracle if it lasted a corn picking season. The Motorola that's on the 2344 has been trouble free but it also has a cover over the back of it with a screen over the vent tube to keep trash out of it.

Leaving the switch on is not good for it.

Also the dirt, that's probably the biggest enemy. It packs in and blocks the air flow. That will happen with any alternator.

One thing that came to mind, what kind of electrical load do you have? If there is an air conditioner with multiple blower motors, it may have a substantial, continuous load. If that is the case, try to calculate the amp load and find an alternator with at least 20-50% greater amp capacity.

They get expensive, but maybe a physically larger, like would be on an ambulance, would be more resistant to dirt clogging. If there is an alternator/starter shop near by, they may have something used or rebuilt.

In the 6620 parts there is a screen available for a Delco to help keep threshing dust out, blowing them out helps a lot,,,I don't like Motorola's at all..

Leese Neville are fundamentally Bullet proof. Smallest is 140 amps. Delcos 10SI with fiberglass screen wire on the back (intake) work Ok. I have not seen high failure rates on Hitachi or Nippondenso alternators in the 45 amp range, and they are small/cheap. Jim

My combine gets a new alternator every year with the exception being This year which Im still shocked about

sv, I had trouble with a denso in the combine. It would eat 1 every year and a half, heck you could set your calendar on it. Switched to Delco and it's still running after 4 years. I guess try other brands until something works????

I have a few places with lifetime warranty but I figure after they replace the one thats it I gotta pay for the next one .

I dont ever replacing an alternator or starter on anything growing up ever . I seen some sealed alternators in a parts book somewhere now I cant find them
