John Deere 50 sheller

Back in the summer I bought a second Deere 237 mounted corn picker. It also came with a 50 sheller. Having never used one I had to try it out. I was able to make a few rounds but the sheller has a missing door for the cobs and some ended up going up the sheller auger and plugging the pipe. I will need to find some parts before next year. I am running it with a 2510 diesel. Tom

Very cool! When I was a kid, dad shelled a lot of corn with a new idea 2 row picker sheller. At one point, he was doing 400 acres a year through one.

looks good brings back some memories and honestly really don't miss it. Had a 656 and a new idea picker. Yesterday I was sitting in the cab watching the corn go through thinking it would be too muddy to pick corn with a mounted picker and a narrow front. We never had a single front.

I got one with a 237 picker I bought also. Used it for several years and did a very good job but was really heavy. I had mine on a 630 LP and it was all it wanted. Wagon load of shelled corn is lot heavier than ear corn! I replaced the 13.6 tires with 14.9's to carry the extra weight of the sheller.

great pictures, i always heard good things about the 237 picker
50 sheller is scare here, how did the tractor handle it?

I only did a few rounds as I found some problems with the sheller. On flat land it was fine but if you had hills and a big wagon a 3020 might be a better choice than the 2510. In ear corn the 2510 has plenty of power. Tom

Nice pictures! I always wondered how well those things worked. Ever since I read the Johnny Tractor book with Corny Cornpicker.

If you tried that here you would be needing a nose lead all the time. We got stuck with the combine last night. Pulled it out and kept going. Could only put about 300 bushel in the cart or get stuck. Have 200HPwith MFWD on it. Duals and new tires a year ago on it.
