sediment bowls/fuel shutoff valves

Appears to be the next great shortage. When I was cleaning out the fuel system on Young Son's Massey 65 a few weeks ago there were no gaskets or other parts at TSC in Buda so I bought the last entire assembly they had. Last week the one on my NAA was leaking at the valve so I went back to TSC and no parts OR entire assembly so I took a drive to San Marcos. TSC there had no parts and had 1 full assembly. Neither store had parts for other tractor brands either. I had checked one of YT's competitors and they were out of stock. The lady at TSC in San Marcos said they are having trouble getting a lot of items which of course come from across the Pacific.

In many cases I make my own gaskets, but finding material compatible with E-10 gas is a bit of a problem. For valve stem packing I have taken the nut off and wrapped a few wraps of teflon tape around the stem, it usually works.

Tsc in my area is next to useless for tractor parts. Id try somewhere else maybe an auto parts store would be better.

Thats OK. In my opinion, I would not want entire replacement assemblies that came from overseas. They are cheaper made, poorer quality, and won't last half as long as the original ones you are replacing.
And that is, if you can get them installed correctly without ruining them because they are made so cheap.
My closest TSC is an hours drive away. Si I don't shop there. I'd try other stores, and I'd be looking for gaskets, and packing. Not entire replacement assemblies.

Some call me cheap.
I went to RK and bought a new one. It was a better shutoff and had a screw inside.
One trip and done.

Did you check with YT, Amazon or Ebay?
Saves gas.

Unfortunately where I live has changed in the past 40 years from farming/ranching to houses as Austin has moved south. There isn't a tractor dealer closer than San Marcos and the O'Rileys and Auto Zone etc. don't have tractor parts or staff who can find them. My next stop was going to be at my usual local auto/truck parts place and see if they could order one.

Sediment bowls...what a pain. I have 3 old MF tractors and the sediment bowls have been a constant source of leaks and stoppage. It is surprising that such a simple device could be so prone to failure. Always leaking when the tank is full and has to be drained. I would gladly pay double for a high quality part that would last longer, but I have had no luck finding one. I too am open to quality source suggestions.

Sounds like poorly trained people at O'Reilly's since I know for a fact they can get you the parts. I buy most of the tractor parts from them

I have a box that I collect sediment bowls in. Just in case I hit my head and ever want to use one again.

Quarter turn ball valve, in-line filter and I am done with leaks and crud in my carb.

Otherwise, available from any NAPA store.

I have always intended to do what moresmoke says about the valve and filter, just haven't done it for some reason. I really need to do that on my TO 30. Good winter project after our plowday on teh 13th.

3/8 NPT close nipple, ball valve, and hose barb. All hardware store stuff. I try to avoid elbows if possible, they tend to plug up with the tank crud.

This is what i use for filters. Havent had an issue with flow volume with these. I like having the clear filter, it easy to see when there is a large amount of build up. And also if there is gas flow. Also, the hose is modern alcohol safe hose.

Agree, but price does not always mean you automatically get better quality. How would you be sure you are getting top quality?

moresmoke, I like that setup. I copied the pictures and description, may use that on my NAA. My JD LX176 has that setup on a smaller scale, after 13 years Ive never replaced the filter. Not been an issue. My NAA the sediment bowl is leaking from the knob, after it was leaking from the other end. I got it from YT nearly a year ago. My JD B has a sediment bowl that never had an issue, yet it was replaced 35= years ago. My how times have changed.

Just the setup I use only I use a mini ball valve from McMaster Carr. Keep a few different sizes on hand for whenever I need them.
