Picture of my extension cord

Used 25 ft of 10-3.

Without cutting the cord on my Lincoln 225 it looks like 10g.

I've been using extension cord for 20 years on a 30 amp breaker. Never tripped 30a breaker.
Never go past 120 amp settings.

At my work, we had an electrician come in and make a 50' cord to plug our wire feed welder into. Should have been about 10' longer to get about 30' outside the door.

Here's mine George. 50 feet long. It violates the code. No protective outer jacket. It's the old triplex that used to feed our house 100 amp breaker box before we put the feed underground. I check it periodically for cracks in the insulation, and I don't drag it around, but it goes against the rules and has for 30+ years.

Looks fine. So long as whatever you're welding ???????? at how ever many amps ??????? does not cause the cords current to continually exceed its rated ampacity ?????? nor does the proper rated and operating overcurrent protection device trip YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO USE WHATEVER YOU WELL PLEASE, TO EACH THEIR OWN RISKS AND CHOICES !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey as I posted before Ive seen guys use 10 Gauge or even some 12 Gauge extension cords on 240 Volt Lincoln Buzz Box AC Welders at lower amps for shorter times AND NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM so you're in good company and certainly NOT alone lol

However of course, for the record, even though Im long retired from Power Distribution, I must recommend following NEC rules and guidelines (which indeed can consider diversity and duty cycle uses when sizing conductors for certain applications like perhaps say a welder) when it comes to fire and life safety as the life you save may be your own !!!!!!!!! In my career Ive just seen or read or studied about too many fires or deaths caused by improper electrical wiring and safety.

Best wishes everyone be safe out there, God Bless
