OT class C rv tire/wheel upgrade?

Keep blowing inner dual on 16 load range E tires on my 35 RV. 225/75r16 tires. I have read where theres a company offering 17.5 upsize rims thatll bolt on 8x6.5 bolt pattern. Called the number but get the disconnect msg.

Looking at dually flatbed trailer rims in 17.5

Opinions cautions experiences?

That sounds like an unusual problem. I can't see what a different size rim would make. Is it on the same side? Michelin made a batch of bad tires a
couple years ago. I happened to have a set bad ones. All 6 were placed free. That may not be your problem. Stan

I would try to keep the same overall diameter (about 29.2 inches?). A wider lower profile tire might have a higher load rating, ie: LT245/70R16 or LT265/60R16, or bump up to a higher ply rated tire. Most tire retailers have online tire conversion calculators. Is your rim width wide enough to take a wider tire without replacing the rims?

Dumb questions: are you running the same pressure in all four duals; and are they matched for wear and diameter?

There are 12 ply rating or "F" rated tires available in that size. 17.5 tires offer a significant improvement in load rating though, and you generally get better quality and durability because of it. If you want 17.5 tires, look at the 215/75R17.5, this size is just under 1 inch taller, and just under a 1/2 inch narrower than 225/75R16.

Plenty of places sell wheels and tires, or wheel/tire combos, it's actually not that rare. I'll leave a couple links below, but you can shop around with other trailer supply places or ask locally.

Always the same side (ditch or road) or has it been both sides?

What are you running for air pressure?

Are the side walls of the duals rubbing each other?

How many tires have blown? New or used tires? What does the place you are buying the tires say.

Tread on the blown tires scuffed or wearing good?

If you are just putting a new tire aganst an older or more worn tread tire that will happen sometimes. On my one semi trailer with 22.5's I had to put both tires on new and save the good one to put on with one of about the same tread depth. IF I didn't the more worn one would scuff as they turned rubbing the tread off instead of wearing it off. Blowing is more of an inflation or rubbing of the side walls problem. Might also look occasionally to make sure something didn't get wedged between them causing the same problem. What extra stuff do you have inside like bigger freezers or other personal items that ad a lot of weight beyond the unit itself? I know several years ago somebody was saying how heavy a lot of Motor homes and campers were due to the extra stuff people put in them over the loaded weight rating of the vehicle. Sort of like all the hay bales you see on top of horse trailers going down the road.

Why dink around with oddball 17.5" tires when 19.5" are widely available?

That chassis should have 215/85R16's on it, which have a slightly better load rating and are a couple inches bigger around.

The smaller 19.5"s are not much bigger around than a 225/75R16 but have a load rating of 4000+lbs per tire.

Many Class C's come out of the factory overloaded. A friend of mine had one, took it to be weighed and it was right at the tire and wheel limit before he put a single thing in it. He took it on a couple of trips and then traded it in on a diesel pusher with 22.5's.

the 17.5 rims are so you can put on the much heavier semi low boy tires. I had them on a trailer in the past and those tires are more money but will end you tire problems.

It has been both sides but primarily the passenger side (exhaust side of the chassis). New tires, old tires, matched tires... does not seem to matter. Same height, 85psi. I thought I had it figured out with the valve stem extensions (took em off and using a long dual foot gauge/chuck). Tire shops said the E load range is the max available for the 16 inch rim. Had not thought to go with 215s and was worried going wider would lessen the cooling as they would be closer together. 17.5s should fit but can only be found at Etrailer.

Had not considered 19.5s but will check those links.

Thank you for the input.
