Got a buck with the bow Sunday night. Didn't get the best shot and hit it low and to the back. Followed my string for 300 odd yds. Tracked blood trail for 70 yds. until I found my broken arrow. Another 40 yds. and I found this. Shot was right at dark and Deer was walking normal with no sign of distress. The arrow thru the neck looked looked it had been there for a couple of days.

I've found several arrow pieces and heads in deer I've shot over the years. One traveled from the throat patch to the elbow, and then worked itself back to center of the neck. The neck is mostly muscle, so unless an artery or windpipe is hit it's a superficial wound.

Nice young buck. It's rough out there for a deer. I've killed my share but never found another hunter' s arrow. Sure hope that hunter was not aiming for the neck. I might have that same crossbow. Mine is a CenterPoint.

Shot a little 6 pt years ago with the 16 gauge. Turned out it had an abcess the length of its spine and pus in some other places. We thought it might have been shot under the backbone with an arrow, straight thru. Got a new tag from the game warden.

I shot a deer a few years ago that appeared to be fine, healthy and walking fine with no noticeable limp. Upon butchering him we found a mechanical broad-head buried in his front shoulder and healed over. Blades still intact. Eventually met the hunter who claimed to have shot him with that broad-head 6-7 weeks prior. Amazing what they can recover from. One tough animal.
