I just bought this machine. ran it about 3hrs today did great. when I shut machine down it started overheating and radiator started boiling over. any help would be appreciated

Make sure the radiator cap is at its rated pressure. Make sure the thermostat is opening at the rated temp. Make sure the
radiator is not plugged up with dirt/chaff/bugs/or straw. Make sure the drive belt on the fan is good, and also tight. Make sure
the antifreeze is at the rated 50 50 mix. Pre water boils at lower temperature. If the issue persists, flush the system. if no
joy, have the water pump flow checked in the radiator. Watch for flow when warm, not hot!!! Have the radiator Rodded to remove
scale and deposits. Jim

I would let it idle for 5 minutes or longer. Also it sounds like your radiator cap may be bad. When any
engine shuts down in warm weather without(and sometimes with) idling down, the block temp will raise. And
increase pressure in the radiator. Mark.

The problem you describe is a phenomenon called afterboil. When you stop a hot engine without a cool down period,
the latent heat in the block causes the coolant to boil down inside the engine causing pressure to build until it
reaches the rated pressure of the cap. Once that pressure is reached or passed, the cap allows coolant to escape
along with some steam.

I presume your machine has a diesel engine. Most diesels require a 5-minute idle to cool down before you stop them.
Not doing so can result in problems more serious than afterboil. Problems like cracked blocks, cracked liners, and
seized pistons. Turbochargers also do not like to be shut down hot.

I will add a suggestion of purchasing a laser IR
thermometer you can get them at auto parts stores,
hardware stores and home improvement centers. You can
get one for $20 - $30 see example in link. Then take a
reading on the thermostat housing and compare it to your
gauge. It may be the gauge is not reading correctly and the
engine coolant is at a higher temp than it is telling you.
Which means it could need some of the actions performed
to correct the issue as suggested by Jim. And also the
gauge repaired to read correctly.
