For all you fruitcakes (GRIN)

Last year after Christmas, I said I'd
post mama's recipe for fruit cookies for
all you fruitcake lovers.

Note on side 2 - mama said do NOT over
bake 'em.

Hope these pics will be clear.
It is written in secret code called
cursive... we DO have one over on those
young whippersnappers. :) :)

Now Ron, you know I don't like to bake.

I even fessed-up to buying the molasses cookies when you and Mrs greenmech were here. LOL

is this like the xmas cake we used to make a few months before xmas and kept it moist with brandy every so often,.. as good?

Rum cake is the traditional X-mas cake at our house. A good fruit cake is hard to beat too. I enjoy both.

Might be good, but you can have my share. It is on my will not eat list, along with chicken, raisins, coffee and tea. I dont need anymore door stops! lol

The secret to my moms fruit cake was use plenty of fruit; it does make them expensive and to bake them the first week in September. This all allowed you plenty of time to soak them several times with whiskey and have the alcohol evaporate off. This made them moist and not dry.

My introduction to fruitcake was at a Christmas party my mother took me to when I was about 4 years old. 'Oh, Billy', she said, 'taste this fruitcake, it is so good'. I tasted it, gagged, and ran outside and spit it in the snow. That's how 'good' it was. Best fruitcake I ever tasted was out of a can of C Rations. I wish I could get the recipe they used.

I can read it just fine.
Sometimes when I am printing something for someone, I will sneak in a few words in cursive to confuse young folks.

Just for clarification:

I only tasted these cookies once (though now as an adult, I might actually like them - but that'd mean I'd have to bake 'em)... However, Dad always said they were DELICIOUS!

On holiday fruit cakes, I usually bought the cakes for my families consumption and as gifts to friends from:

Collin Street Bakery, Corsicana, Texas. Ship world wide. Superb cake.
