Fridge died maybe lightning

So the lightening struck the tree Friday night if I remember correctly. Didn't see any damage and everything worked in the house. Wednesday I got my beef home. Today blood was coming out of the freezer when I got up. I have two freezers, an upright and a chest, and the house fridge/freezer. All were full up, so couldn't even move the meat. Oh well, gave some away, cooked some and only had to toss a few packages. Neighbor thinks the lightning did it. I don't know. Sure would have been nice if it had quit before the meat showed up. And it's amazing how much blood and water can come out of a few pounds of meat. It was everywhere. And it kept coming out while we were moving the old fridge. Had blood to clean up all over. What a mess. But the new fridge is in.

Knew a guy who had lightening strike take out major appliances. Replaced all but said microwaves only lasted 1 year in the house after the strike and a lot of strange electrical stuff for years later. His strike was around 1990

At our last place, we had lightning strike a tree, then jumped to ground, went up the power pole and through the meter. Ended up blowing out everything that was plugged in. Caught the new stacker washer/dryer on fire. Smoke all over the fairly new house.

Also had lots of electrical gremlins after that point.

We moved here a couple years later. I ran temporary electric. Well, it's still here and working fine. We unplug everything for thunderstorms. EVERYTHING! Has become a safe habit. Still have quite a few brownouts, but not nearly as many as there used to be. Our electric company is very good!

Lightning has a brain of it's own.
It can do what ever it wants.
Only thing you can do is get out of it's way.
I use surge suppressors on anything of value
I leave plugged in. Twice I've had holes blown in
surge suppressor going to dishwasher. Surge suppressor
Saved dishwasher.

Check with your insurance company, they may cover it. When we got struck by lightning a few years ago, they said if anything else dies in a week or so to let them know and they would cover it,Its worth asking.

Musta been about 15 years ago by now, but we had a huge, dark cloud come over our house. Nothing was really forecast, so we didn't think too much about it. My youngest was on the computer and the rest of us were in the house. All of the sudden there was a big boom and a bright flash of light inside the house. It was bright enough that all of us were seeing spots, just like getting a photo used to do to you. I ran around looking for the house to be on fire, but luckily nothing. Anyway, everything that we had plugged in was fried. Refrigerator, computer, chest freezer, lamps, TV, everything plugged in. We had our computer plugged into a surge suppressor that put a $50,000 guarantee on everything that was plugged into it, so I sent it the suppressor into the factory as a condition of the warranty. They sent it back saying it was fine. I called them and told them that the computer, printer, and monitor were all plugged in, but yet fried and they said that it was just static in the air that fried everything and their suppressor tested good. Right before they hung up on me, I told them that everything that was not plugged in was fine. Morale of the story: If they can get out of their warranty, they will.
A little over a year ago, we also had our church get hit by lightning and it took out the sound system. The funny part of it all was that lightning hit a microphone that was in the middle of the church and followed it to the amp. You could clearly see the microphone and circuit board damage where it went into the amp.
Glad you were able to get a replacement fridge so soon. Hopefully, the freezer/refrigerator shortage is over?

A single old man died. Someone had the electrical service disconnected. There were two freezers in the basement and quite some time later someone opened one of them. The smell was absolutely terrible.

Lightning may have been the problem. Some appliances don't like power disruption. My power went off for a while a week or so ago. right after that my refrigerator stopped working. Stan

Back in the day when I use to work on electronics circuits, almost everything that was hit buy lighting would fail. Sometime immediate and some times a few weeks later.
