Value of an 8N

My cousin has an old 8N sitting in my dad's shed, not sure the year. It turns over, but slowly (may have been due to the not-so-great jumper cables I was using). Says the motor was rebuilt 25 hours ago, but may need carb work. The left rear and right front tires are flat.

I'm in NE Iowa, what is a decent offer for this tractor?

A non running tractor is a parts tractor.

Good advise below. $500 max. Probably less

Go to the local Farm &Garden section of Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace and see what the average asking price is for one similar to yours.

Then deduct another 500.oo to get a realistic price...

For a parade tractor the 500.00 for anything else don't bother. Pto has to be on for the 3 pt to lift. To light for much of any heavy work and front end is not heavy enough for loader work. If you need a tractor there are much better options out there for similar money to what they will want for it.

Your cousins tractor in your Dads shed...? so how many years of storage does he owe you:) Paint good? Tires good? Sounds like a little TLC and it will run...$5-700 should do it. Another $100 will make it run...unless it needs a battery then plan on $200. You will be have a good tractor when its running:)

I was gonna say $800, but if everybody else thinks five, OK. I really think if you put an ad on Craigslist for eight , you'd get $750 and it'd be gone tomorrow.

To get the best price, it needs to be running and drivable.

It's a trade off, spend the money and time to get it running, or sell it at scrap or parts value.

Over 500,000 built.
Some must have been used for work and some were used with loaders and/or a backhoe on them.

Not many were bought to be "parade tractors" when new.

If you are thinking of buying it from a relative, to avoid family problems I would let the seller set the price, you may be pleasantly surprised. If it is too high you can always look for another 8N or a more capable tractor. Give the seller a chance to air up the tires to see if they hold air and a chance to get it started. If those are unsuccessful, a $500 offer for a non-running 8N would be about right if there is no sentimental value. Be prepared to walk away without buying it.

hey were a great and revolutionary tractor. When a team of horses was the alternative.

Thanks for all the input. $500-$800 is kind of what I was thinking. He tells me he is holding on to it due sentimental value, so I'm not super confident he'll let it go for a decent price.
