Talk to a guy the other day he said he had a Javlin, with a IHC 235, in line 6 in it,7main Brg ,i didn't know they even made such a animal,so do you know anything about it?

Available only in a two-door hardtop, body style, the Javelin came in base and more premium SST models. Standard engines were a 232 cu in (3.8 L) straight-6 or a 290 cu in (4.8 L) two-barrel carburetor V8. Optional was a 343 cu in (5.6 L) V8 in regular gasoline two-barrel, or high-compression, premium-fuel four-barrel versions.

The V8 Javelin was suppose to be a pony car.

I took a ride in a V8 Javelin. Wasn't a popular car at the time.

When I was racing stock cars back in the 1970's a fellow had a Javelin stock car.

He must have been using the high compression 343 V8, 'cause our rules said your engine had to be the same make as your sheet metal. I'm not sure if there was any performance stuff available for AMC.

The guy was actually quite competitive with the rest of us.

BTW, if any of Ya'll go through central Nebraska, the guy now owns Bosselman's Travel Plaza in Grand Island and a string of Pump and Pantry convenience stores around the area.

that would be the amc engine, not ihc engine. ihc used the same amc engine in their pickups also. even the 4000 ih swathers used that engine. so thats probably why he said that.

AMC had a 258 I6 along in that time frame. I know it was used in Gremlin. Worked at AMC dealer in 72-73. Old guy had AMX with 401 4 speed, it was scary fast.

There was one that was called a Mark Donohue Javelin that was pretty high performance, I worked with a fellow that had one. I had a 71 Mustang at the time, I said he could outrun me, but he had to stop for gas so often!

When my buddy and I did hot rod motors we put a performance AMC small block in a Gremlin. Later we put a hot AMC big block in a Javelin. That car had more power than traction

Thats why it had so much power,LOL, but anyway this guy is a retired airplane Mechanic,so i figured he knew what he was talking about. Thanks !

This is not my car, it was listed in auto trader - MI , asking like 32 K. These are rare cars today. This is a 1969, possibly one of those A M C, V-8's. Just don't see these at car shows.

I had an IH Travelall back in the 70's. Needed some engine parts, couldn't find anything to match. Finally the auto parts counter man suggested that perhaps it had an AMC engine (V-8) then things began to make sense. ( I wasn't too impressed with AMC at the time.)

I worked on a Scout that had an AMC 6 in it,I just thought someone had transplanted it. 4 barrel and headers on it. It ran like crap and he had it two four different shops(only ran on two cylinders)The real kicker it didn't make any difference which plug wires you pulled it just ran one any two cylinders. It was missing the one thing everyone says it cannot run without, it had no condenser, non. He gave me a $50.00 for a tip.

I had a '64 Rambler American I6 with only 3 mains....their old design engine. '65 models had 7 mains. There was a reason for the upgrade.....talking mains at less than 100k easy, adult driven miles, well maintained 3 main engine.

Sourgum Are you sure that picture is not an AMX the Javelin had a hump in the front fender over the wheel and your picture doesn't look like it has that. Could also be the glare/shine in the picture causing that.
I was always a hemi and 4 spd guy in a GTX. Chromed up Road runner.

The Javelin and AMX had the exact same body other than wheelbase and seating. The Javelin wheelbase was 109" and the AMX was 97" and a two seater.

First generation was '68 to'70 which is what Sourgum posted.

Second generation was '71 to '74 and was no longer a two seater, which is what bamaray posted.

Both had 110" wheelbase from 1971 on.

Built my high school car from a stolen recovery that my dad hauled in and the people rejected. Had less than 10,000 miles on it, broke the seats off (buckets), ripped the dash apart stealing the stereo and blew the engine (390 V8). Dad told me if I was going to build it, build it with something you can get parts for. He helped me put a 350 chevy with a turbo 350 transmission. Walt Rawhut (sp?) welded up a driveshaft for me. Mine was a '72 Javelin AMX. Had the cowl induction hood (non functional until you remove the panel!), front lower spoiler and rear trunk spoiler. Bucket seats and full console. Stripes and color.
