Smallest HP Tractor w-1000 and 540 PTO???

What is the smallest hp tractor that is both 540 and 1000 pto. I know my IH 756 gasser had both, but what about
other makes and models from the late 60s thru the 70s?

Pondering a 15ft batwing bushhog and my MF 1105 has both 1000 and 540 PTO hp, everything else is 540 only and to
be fair - none capable of handling a 15ft batwing. I would prefer a 1000 PTO batwing.

However, if I bought another tractor (which I am pondering also), I'd like to know if some of these older
tractors could have 1000 and 540 PTO.

Any sage info is much appreciated!

To be clear, are you asking about tractors that have 2 PTO shafts; one 540 and one 1,000? There are tractors that have multiple PTO speeds using just the one PTO shaft.

The Pasquali 986 (21hp) that I used to have had one PTO, but could select for 540 or 750 rpm.

My JD 4010 had 2 PTO shafts; a rear that was 540 and a mid that was 1,000.

My Case 970 has 540+ 1000, remove snap ring pull out PTO shaft turn it around reinstall it and snap ring good to go in about 3 minutes.

Honestly, I would want 90 plus HP to run a 15 foot mower if there is any kind of tall grass or saplings where you plan to mow. Pretty sure the JD 1010 had 1000 RPM available as well as 540 but I would not put a 1010 on a 15 cutter. I would guess that there were a fair number of under 60 HP tractors made having both 1000/540 capability but again too small for a 15 foot cutter in my mind. PTO clutches in such tractors probably not heavy enough for prolonged operation or sudden strike on an obstruction.

Bingo.

The smaller 6/781 Fords are probably the lowest HP tractors with 540/1000 RPM PTO.

8/981 Fords could handle a 10'- 12' BW in most conditions but 15' is a BW too far.

Bill, I am not a farmer, but I work on a lot of tractors and I have 2 customers that live within five miles of me that have 15 foot batwings with 1000 RPM gearboxes. One has a Kubota M 108X and a the other one has a McCormick CX 105. Both are over 100 HP Tractors and they both complain about not having enough horsepower. How can you run one with less? What am I missing.

i think you are wanting a large hp with 1000 but also 540. Like 2290 case 120hp
that is the biggest tractor with the 540 option you may want to run other equipment on 540 and bat wing on 1000

I wouldn't put anything smaller than your 1105 Massey on a 15ft batwing if you're going to mow anything very thick. I have an 1170 Case on my batwing and in thick heavy grass it will work it. Just my thoughts.

I think you are right on the 1010, because I believe the 435 was available with 1000 RPm PTO, too. But I think it was either 1000 or 540, and not convertible??? Not sure.

I checked some notes after posting here and something was mentioned for 540/1000 RPM operation for 1010 tractors with independent PTO. I've been around very few 1010's and they all looked like they were 540 only.

Had a Yanmar 1300D about 16 HP that had 540,750 and 1000 RPM PTO.My Yanmar YM330 31HP has 540 and 1000 PTO and its LPTO.My David Browns all have 540 and 1000 PTO the smallest is the 780 at about 40 HP.My Craftsman FF 18,at 18 HP has 1000 and 2000 RPM PTO and its LPTO.

Had a Long 910 which is a rebranded Zetor 8011 about 80 HP, it had a cap in the transmission housing about half way of the tractor that take the cap off pull out the shaft it had, swap it end to end and it changed from 540 to 1000 PTO.

Ford 5000, the latest models maybe not the early ones, had both shafts available. 60hp.

Think it was for the tiller, when I bought the tractor it had a mounted tiller just for that tractor I changed it over to 3pt.Used the 750 PTO sometimes with a small 540 brush hog, wish some of my larger tractors had it.

I'm mostly curious about just the general availability/offerings of 540/1000 tractors. I have a friend that runs a 15ft batwing on a New Holland TN 75, which is probably 60 pto hp. He is not setting land speed records or mowing waist high thickets, but gets along OK at a reasonable pace. If I bought a 70ish hp tractor I'd like to have the 1000 pto option - if I ever needed it. My MF 1105 dynos at 118 hp.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was surprised at how many tractors have 1000 pto in smaller hp.

For IH it was the 454, had both shafts always in place. Not aware of any small IH with both.
