super h power steering

I want to add power steering to my super h ih. Is tractor hydraulics adequate to power char-lynn pump? If not, how do you configure the
pump without altering the hood? Can I add a pulley to the fan shaft without altering the drive belt configuration? Do you know a supplier
who sells the complete unit? I know this is a lot of questions, but would appreciate any help I can get. Thx

Assuming your SH is a stage II with the live pump, the pump will be adequate for power steering. You will however need to add a flow divider between the pump and Christmas tree valve for it to work.

However if your tractor is a Stage I with a belly pump the only option is a dedicated belt-driven steering pump. I've seen many M's outfitted like this - an automotive pump is mounted on a bracket attached to the governor housing and driven by a pulley added to the front of the stock crankshaft pulley. No reason it could not be applied to an SH.

You will also need different gage bracket (or modify your existing bracket) to mount the torque generator. And you will need to shorten the steering wheel shaft and modify the back half of the hood to provide clearance for the torque generator.

Many years ago (like about 1970....!) you could purchase an entire kit from Charlynn. I installed these kits on a couple Super M's - they worked great. But I doubt a kit is available today.

Didn't a SH have live hydraulics? You should be able to plumb in a priority valve & use the tractor's live hydraulics to power the torque engine needed in the steering shaft.

steiner lists brackets for SM not SH. OP is gonna have to make his own bracketry. IMHO electric is the way to go here.

A power steering unit only requires about 3GPM, and the factory live pump on a Super H produces 12GPM so it has plenty. You need to obtain and set up a priority valve to power the steering.

Unless you can find a system that was removed from an H or Super H, you're going to have to piece together the system yourself. Demand for such things is almost nonexistent today. How many people are going to put $1500 or so into an old H or M which is worth maybe $1000 running and driving on a good day?

The Charlynn motor will fit under the hood with no modification.

I put power steering on my straight H and never cut the hood, this tractor does not have live hyd. either. Mounted the pump on left hand side. You will need a beveled plate for your torq. gen. Not an easy job on a H-SH.
