Tire quality

Hi!

I am thinking about tire quality new vs old. It sure ookes great when a tractor is put on sale with new tires vs some half worn with cracks here and there. But could the old ones be of better quality than the new good looking ones. Is there being made tires of low quality today more than a few decades ago?

from what i have seen the chinese tires are as low quality as can get. an old set of firestones will out last them easily. as they say u get what u pay for. lol.

The old ones are ten times the quality of the new one cheap ones anyway . Ive got Goodyear and firestones that are 25 years old and have less cracks in them than 4 year old cheap tires

dont buy chinese then. even BKT is not all that bad for a decent price. tubes are the same, the chinese tubes are half the thickness as
natural rubber ones, even though they are half the price or less. might be ok if just using air in them , would not put fluid in them. myself
i go for Titans little better than BKT and resonable price.

I'm always looking for good used tractor tire or buy a parts tractor with good tires.Thinking back I can't ever remember buying new rear tractor tires.Probably have on hand all the tires I'll ever need,

Yes, there is something lacking in the new tires.

They rot way sooner than the older ones!

And it's not just tires, every rubber product out there I have encountered has the same problem.

I keep hoping someone familiar with the industry would come on and explain some of the process, and especially how to tell by looking!

One exception has been automotive hoses. Used to be radiator and heater hose problems were just a part of owning a car or truck. Now they seem to last much longer, often the life of the vehicle.

That just proves it can be done. But why the shortened life on tires and many rubber products? Planned obsolesce, some component that has gone off the scale of expensive, a shortcut in the curing process, or all three?

Just went through that.

Needed tubes. Firestone has 2 tubes my size, USA and imported.

Imported was $20 cheaper

But USA made weighed 3.5 lbs. more...thicker rubber?

I went USA made

The country of manufacture has very little to do with the quality of the goods. The much more important factor is the brand. WHILE THERE ARE OF COURSE MANY EXCEPTIONS, since many manufacturers have sent a lot of their production overseas, usually the overseas manufacturers are supplied with very rigorous specifications and procedures and inspections to insure a product that meets the brand standards for quality, so you can get the quality that you expect. There are also many overseas manufacturers who produce exactly what they want to their own specs with lax oversight and inspections. You can't intelligently over generalize. You have to do your homework to ensure that you are getting a good brand. Then you have to become acquainted with the different quality grades that any given brand may offer.

(quoted from post at 22:18:19 09/19/21) Old tires were made of real rubber and lasted longer. Today they use a synthetic rubber.
Tires have been made of primarily synthetic rubber since the 1940s.
