I was watching a movie on the tv tonight. I noticed a Mercury pickup used in the movie. Now that has to be fairly rare. Anyone seen a mercury pickup, or maybe owned one? Stan

I ran a drill rig mounted on a 53 Mercury M6 truck several years in the 70's. It is my understanding that all Ford trucks sold in Canada before a certain date were called Mercury. Also Dodge trucks were called Fargo for a number of years in Canada.

I can only add that the late forties mercury truck, would be a M1 as the ford was a F1, Canadian ford was a F47, the Mercury had more trim on the hood and a front badge, tailgates wore the written mercury name same as the mercury engine heads flathead of course, embossed with made in Canada also the mercury V8 having between 5/10hp more than the ford V8.
My 48 ford is a combination of ford body/mercury drive train, a 48/49/50/51/52 one piece at a time...:)

All Ford trucks sold in Canada before a certain date were [b:af72abef8d]not[/b:af72abef8d] called Mercury.

From 1946 to 1968 Ford produced Mercury trucks in Canada. Both Ford and Mercury trucks were available in those years. This was to allow Mercury/Lincoln dealers to have truck sales.

Dodge trucks were not called Fargo trucks in Canada, That is a popular misconception. Dodge and Fargo trucks were both available in Canada.

The first Fargo trucks were built in Pilsen, Chicago, by the Fargo Motor Car Company from 1913 until 1922. In 1928, Chrysler bought the business and created their own line of Fargo trucks.[1] Shortly after its creation, Chrysler also bought the Dodge Brothers Company, adding Dodge- and Graham Brothers-badged trucks to its product line.

From then on, Fargo trucks were almost identical to Dodge models, save for trim and name, and were sold by Chrysler-Plymouth dealers.

U.S. sales of Fargo trucks were discontinued in the 1930s and replaced in the US by Plymouth-badged trucks in 1937,[2] In Canada, the name Fargo was used until 1972 for marketing reasons to differentiate the trucks as Chrysler-Plymouth dealer offerings apart from the Dodge trucks sold at Dodge dealers. The Fargo brand lived longer in a variety of countries under the Chrysler Corporation's badge engineering marketing approach.

We were riding motorcycles to Alaska in 1976 and we saw Mercury pickups. I have a picture of one stopped behind us. I think it was a 59 model. Also I've seen the Fargo trucks in Mexico.

For years I rode in the back of a yellow Mercury pickup owned by Neal Beecroft from Fort Myers picking a banjo in the Flywheelers truck Parade so yessssssss they were made, Canada I believe ???

I saw a Mercury pickup in south Alabama about 30 years ago on the I65 interstate, only one Ive ever seen. After I saw it I got to doing a little research about them and was unaware at the time it was a Canadian made Ford, thought someone had just put Mercury emblems on it.

I don't think I was even old enough to drive myself when I saw one on the road. Of course Canada is just east of us, so that might explain it.

I think they were popular in Canada, not so much here. I did see one or two growing up.....1950s era as I recall.

Dad would borrow a neighbour's 49 Mercury half ton for picking rock and fencing. It was equipped with a heavy duty three speed transmission with a floor shift, rather than the standard column shift. I loved that truck, picking rock not so much. unc
