This picture was found when someone was tearing down the house where my parents lived in when they first got married per WW2, late 30s early 40s.

Story told by uncle, my dad made a ramp and jumped a semi with the Indian Cheif.

The Jump was successful, the landing wasn't.

This happened in the sleepy little town of Hamlet, In.

Did your dad tell you one hand grip was the spark advance. If you didn't get it right it would kick you back?

Brother Ralph restored an Chief with mechanical spark advance.

He is now the President of the Should Have Club. I Should Have kept that bike, I would be worth a fortune. He sold it for $125. Guy that bought it got a road rash 2 days later.

We have pictures of my uncle on a late 20s I think Indian. He also got roadrash and sold it. Another shoulda kept it. But they were poor farm folk and every penny counted.

The nice part about having Motorcycle parents, I was never told I couldn't have a motorcycle..

Great old picture !!!!!!!!!!!! I recently had some of our old 1950's 8 mm home movies and childhood pics of ancestors converted to Thumb Drives and Digital you might want to look into that

Take care good neighbor be happy

This was dad's last Harley. (His only vehicle, while dating mom.) The last time she rode with him include a hail storm in the Colorado Rockies. By the time they got married, the Harley was gone, but he still had a 3 wheel Indian. He used it like a UTV, around the farm. Allegely, one day Mom looked out the window and caught him doing something on it she didn't think was appropriate for a father with one child, and another on the way! The Indian was sold. Some 14 years later, Dad wouldn't let me buy a Honda, with harvest money burning a hole in my pocket. (I'm pretty sure that was really Mom whispering in his ear!!)

My Mom and Dad would not let me buy a bike-so when I was 18, first main, full time job I used my first paychecks and bought myself my first bike. I eventually even gave both of them rides, too! Mark.

Great picture. The full skirted fenders on Indian Chiefs came out in 1940, That style front spring was up to 45. You are right about the years. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 1940 model. Most harleys, and Indians went to the war effort. My dad didn't even talk much about his motorcycle, much less have a picture of it. Maybe he thought it would keep me off motorcycles. It didn't work.
