Complain to the crowd about how slow the sale is going, but then continue to sell choice! If the auctioneer does wanna wait while the top bidder paws thru boxes trying to decide which ones they want, they should probably quit doing it!

Dealership sellout in Cuba city, WI. They had three long trailers of manuals, brochures, etc. auctioneer whined all the way through them about people paying hundredish dollars per book, and then only taking 3 or 4. He sold THOUSANDS of dollars on those three trailers. I sure was getting sick of him blaming us for the speed of his sale. Auctioneer sets the pace.

I was at an auction years ago when the auctioneer stopped and scolded the crowd like we were so many naughty schoolboys. If there
hadn't been a hard to find tractor I was specifically there for, I would have walked away then. I should have anyhow. I'm not an
auction fan to begin with, and the tractor went too high.

Yea I was at sale. Powers auction service always thinks they are kind of special. I
try to avoid their auctions if possible

I am gonna try that sentence again -

If the auctioneer does NOT want to wait while the top bidder paws through boxes, trying to decide what he wants, they should probably stop offering choice!

An auction should be fast paced.
Keeping the buyers hyped up. I can't
stand a slow begging auctioneer. Also
properly lotting items is key to a
smooth and well run auction. Their is
a science to an auction.

One trick I've seen with one particular auctioneer is he will start off with a great item and sell it fast for a good deal then he has peoples attention, wakes up the bidders.

I just got home from a Amish Produce Auction. I wasn't quick enough on a couple items I was going to
bid on today. First time there for me as it is a weekly Auction and wasn't use to the auctioneer.
But he did move things along and I still came home with a trailer load.

All I can say is WOW!

I was auction once auctioned was bitching at buyers they needed to wake up stuff was selling to cheap. he was going to have to come and do some head knocking to wake people up he was going to get out of heated truck( it was a cold day ) and educate buyers some guy in crowd yelled back at him I'd like to see you do that Ray

While they are looking thru the pile of choice, why doesn't he sell something else from another pile? Seems pretty
elementary to me. R

2 years ago local auctioneer list a 2 day sale with what is on each day, Item I want is listed for 2nd day, get there about 3 hours they get near item and go right on by. caught auctioneer at lunch, said they sold it yesterday, said I should have been there (some of us have m-f jobs) to bad so sad..
same sale spent more time selling 6 sets of old tractor tire duals averaged 70-150 than he did on 6 restored 2 cyl tractors. I bought a nice restored jd630 for for $3500, fenders, 3 point, and new tires. guy after sale offered me 5500, hauled it 100 miles to my oldest brothers farm (he was wanting a auger tractor and had been to many auctions previous year before health issues) my brother offered me 8000, sold it to him for 4100 to cover my hauling (he was recovering from heart valve surgery) and I can use it when I visit without owning it...

What I find irritating is the auctioneer starting at stupidly high prices. Why start at $500.00 for an item you know isn't going to bring $50.00? If someone is willing to pay, then they'll bid it up. I usually yell out "TEN DOLLARS" or something like that when they start that nonsense just to get stuff started.

I find it pretty funny when they badly underestimate and item. There was an oil filter crusher there. Auctioneer started at $25. 20 hands shot up. Blasted up to $900. Sold in less than a minute. After he sold it, he said - will somebody tell me what that thing is?!?

Proof that things sell for what they are worth at a sale without inflating the starting bid

Pretty simple that while he has the attention of folks looking for that type of item he needs to keep going to hold their interest. If he moves on to something else the interested folks will move on.

Around here while you are digging for a book they are selling the next box and then will come back to
the leftover one. I have worked for some good auctioneers, and seen a lot of really bad ones. The bad
ones do not last long.

On wagon with lots of odds and ends local auctioneer would say anyone that wanted something off the wagon hold it up and that meant an automatic $5 starting bid. Then when no one held up anything he'd sell the rest for one money.Cleared the wagon quick and didn't waste time on things no one wanted to bid on.
