This is what I'm talking about

My dad had a F100. Inline 6.
This is what I'm talking about, having an old truck restored, 8 ft bed, upgrade engine and make it low enough I don't need a ladder to get things out of the bed.

I love the old classic look.
F100

Since you opened the subject, why is the pickup trend of the last decade migrating to higher sides, higher bodies off the frames and all that crap that makes using your truck a pain?

Just my opinion. If my old memory is correct Dodge may have been the first to make a jacked up Ram. It sold and everyone wanted one.
No one would make a truck they can't sell.
When I learned 2007 was the last year for the low Classic I bought a new one. I had it undercoated. Planning on keeping it forever. I think it would cost less to have my 2007 upgraded vs the price of a new truck.

You are just looking in the wrong places, there are plenty of normal trucks available from the big 3. But dealers just often dont carry them in stock. As the dealership can make more $$ selling trucks with extra features. 4x4 and extra big tires are two things that come to mind. You dont have to keep your old truck forever. Just tell the sales staff what you want to buy, and if they give you the run around, ask to speak to the manager or go to another dealership

In the old classic look the truck wouldn't have been that low. I hate the lift kit look myself, but I despise the lowered look. Makes the truck useless in snow, off road, etc.

If getting in a standard truck is an issue, get some running boards or steps.

Dodge does have a full size bed, very few dealers stock them because most pickups are not being used like we remember trucks being used. For a few years Dodge made there 4X4 trucks a little lower when there was a requirement for bumper height but then they went back up a few years later, seems like it was in the early 2000's.Anything above the pumpkin height doesn't do a whole lot for ground clearance. I thought the 80's Jeep Cherokees were great off road vehicles and they were easy to get in and out of.

Modern day new pick-ups are not being built to be farm use trucks. They are being built for the suburb socker dads. And socker dafs have to look cool at the socker game in thier new truck.
So new trucks now have to be 4X4, all jacked up, 4 door, complete with tailgate transformable into attached step ladder, and a camara to watch so your not backing up over socker kids.
And most of these features are just for being cool, and not designed for long lasting durable use. But hey, the socker dads are buying them, and they only need to haul the occasional single bag of groceries and or dog food in that pick-up bed. Oh, and the golf clubs never go back there, they have to go into the backseat and can't be outside in the rain and sun.

Sure they do. Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman is available with an 8' bed.

I have one of the few Dodge 1500s with a crew cab and an 8' bed. 2003, 38,500 miles that I bought new.

New truck buyers should still be able custom order a vehicle if they are willing to wait a month or two for the vehicle to be assembled and delivered. You do loose the 3 percent dealer stock discount, but you get to pick and choose each and every option you want. Most manufacturer's website let you choose your options from home and carry the printout to a dealer.

Here is my 1970 F100.302,4sp.170,000 miles.Everyday driver/user.Someday,I hope to 'restore'(LOL) it.

Red .... sounds like you don't have much patience for anyone associated with kid's 'socker' ..... or soccer! ESPECIALLY if they drive a pickup truck. Simper to call it 'football' like the rest of the planet. Maybe you were cut from the local squad once and are not about to forgive ......

I like mine....

Geo...BTW....check the frame rails on your '07. Rust worms got my 07 WT frame, under the cab, both sides. Yep...got mine undercoated too.

I have parts and pieces of 4 of those. Most of the ones I have are 1969 but have part of a 71 GMC also

Yea and that is one long sucker. I had a used '84, a new '98 stretch cab, short box, '07 1500 stretch cab, short box, '09 Hemi, 1500 single cab, short box (second childhood...couldn't resist).

SV,
It's handicap accessible. Low enough to get in.

You can push a bottom and raise the
hydraulic shocks if needed.

Seriously thinking before I pay big bucks on a new high rise truck, I'll have my 2007 GMC customized, engine and tranny upgraded. Made handicap accessible.

Amen brother!!!!! It's either soccer dad's or guys getting "compensation machines"! Neither of them will ever see lumber, feed, rocks and dirt, firewood or maybe a blown engine sitting in the bed. Nothing larger than a ski boat will be trailered either. My youngest boy is looking for his first truck and I'm steering him towards at least a 3/4 ton job since in NYS, most 3/4 pickups don't have to pass emissions tests for annual inspection. There's a reason that little yellow "Check Engine" light is called the "The Lotsa Money Light" here in NY!

(quoted from post at 03:26:44 09/19/21) Picked up this 51 a few weeks ago. Love the old trucks.

Man, that has less rust than the three '49s and 50's I had back in 1969!

That's gonna be really nice again someday I bet!
