Urban Whitetails

My cousin's son lives in a second tier suburb of St. Paul.
He took these photos from a bedroom window of his house. The suburb is a bit wild and woolly with ponds, swamps, a lake or two and lots of undevopable areas for wildlife.
I'm not sure what this big guy would score but would guess in the 180+ range.
For you bow hunters who are going afield starting this weekend and you rifle hunters who are looking ahead to the Nov opener it is just a reminder - that hope springs eternal.

Local guy shot real nice deer right outside the edge of small town a few years back. And before that a few years, a real nice one was hit by vehicle about 1/4 mile from where the other one was shot.
City limit edges are way underlooked by hunters. Hunters just figure nothing would be there, so why bother. Alot of big deer have been shot in my area where you wouldn't think big deer would even be. The reason why is, Nobody else even thinks to hunt those places.

So....the bucks in your area have already lost their velvet?

The bucks around here in upstate New York are still in velvet and hangin' around with each other like best buddies....had two 4 pointers and an 8 pointer together in my yard a week ago.

And those urban whitetails are well fed too!!
Nice gardens, tasty flowers, yummy schrubs.
And an occasional bait pile because the ones with backyards open to the woods like to see bambi come to their house.

Bam, bam, bam!

My farm backs up against a subdivision of sorts 10 to 20 acre lots on part of the West side no hunting there. I've killed some nice bucks that come out of there to my food plots.

I'm over run with deer as more and more subdivisions are built around me. I can't grow anything except in my back yard with a 7 ft. fence and ever now and then one still gets in.

I think the law in many places is fuzzy on bow hunting inside city limits. A guy that rifle hunts on my uncle's farm showed me photos of a very nice buck he got with a bow inside city limits in a co-workers backyard that backed up against a grown up ravine. Since hunting enforcement is a state issue and many town ordinances may not address hunting, you may not be breaking any laws bow hunting safely in town.
