Hay Mower Update

So after struggling with the haybine and then buying and then quickly selling a disc mower, I ended up buying a Befco double action sickle mower used from a dealer (same as an enorossi). When I got it home it needed more love than I thought at first inspection but still cheaper than buying a good used one after rebuilding it. Parts have all been available, just slow shipping

Finally got it back together to cut third cutting last night and the thing is amazing! Whoever suggested the double action sickle, thank you! The thing is unpluggable and I can drive as fast as I can comfortably drive in my fields (5.5mph). Additionally, I can cut my pond bank with it and trim hedges. As a fringe benefit, the neighbor cant run it since he doesnt have 3pt haha.

I still have a couple kinks to work out but this thing will be perfect for my operation.

I think I may be the guilty party for suggesting the double action sickle bar. I am glad it is working out for you. I have just been using my Sitrex sickle bar (which is another rebranded Italian made sickle bar similar to yours), I was trimming around the fields and mowed a couple little spots where I dont bale the hay. I have the swath board off mine for the type of mowing I have been doing. I see yours has the hydraulic cylinder on it, which is nice. Mine is manual lift but it isnt bad because lifting the three point hitch raises the cutterbar a couple feet by a mechanical linkage. As you are finding out, dealers tend not to stock any parts for these mowers even if they sell them so you end up buying parts on-line. John Deere is currently selling A similar sicklebar under the Frontier brand so they might be a parts source , but still probably require ordering parts in.

Does your Dad have ag tires in his 5030 with 8 lug rims?
Mine has turf tires that came with it and they were new when I bought it.
Been thinking of switching to ag tread so it does not spin so much when using the loader.
Tires are loaded with water and antifreeze and I usually leave a 5 foot Bush Hog on it for weight.
Would love to see a photo of your Dad's tractor.
Thanks very much.

The first one I was looking at was a frontier which is made by Maschio. It sold online for $3,500. Neither the local JD or Enorossi dealers stocked parts besides sickles and rivets, etc. thats the only downside Ive seen so far

I run the sickle mower on the 4020 this year . Nice to have a tractor that can do big or pull a 7 foot mower
