Butt look big? I sharted helping a local farmer last year chopping. He has a JD 7980 chopper, way different than the 2 row chopper our neighbor used to pull. This chops 12 30 inch rows at about 3 mph. My favorite job is opening fields and you have to pull in behind so he can blow over you into the wagon. I love just listening to the cutter work.

I remember my dad telling me how he opened up fields with an old Fox self propelled pulling 2 wagons and filling both when they were hooked
behind the chopper

Times have changed. My FIL planted 40 inch rows and we would hand cut two rows to open a field for his one row IH binder. He was doing it that way right through the 70s
till he gave up milking in 79.

yes 20 inch rows in their field, where we custom chopped most had 30 inch rows. Every place we have been at its been hauled to bunker silos. If we are on the same farm we can keep up with 3 big wagons but one place where we had to haul 2 miles it took the 3 wagons, 2 side dump trucks and a straight truck. We finished silage today and took the silage head off and put the combine head on to chop earlage. That is 18 rows on 20 inch centers, roughly 30 feet wide. Once we get rolling I will get some pictures and post them. It's fast paced but I have always loved illegal season and now I get to enjoy it as an older man.
