JD 45 Combine

This is a pic of my Dad when he bought his first Combine around 1955.
I would have been 6, that would make my Dad 35.
I'm not 100% sure, but if my memory is correct this combine had a 45 on it.
The experts here can determine if a JD45 fits the time line.
It was a two row combine. In 1955, the guys called this a self propelled picker sheller. I do remember that. I also remember when it was harvest time, someone was on the combine day and night.

That's a 45. And that corn head, a #10, was Deere's first. Not many of those left. Thanks for sharing!

I can't remember what I had for supper last night, but I can remember the number on a combine from 65 years ago.
My older brothers told me that Dad did a lot of custom work with this combine and it paid for itself.
Hope I can find pics of Dad grain dryer.
I think Dad had one of the first combines and grain dryer in the mid 50's.

Dad had a early one no cab, that huge bin would nearly fill the small gravity boxes we had. It had the Hercules engine, it was bought used and the Herc failed on the way home and had to be rebuilt on the cheap. In heavy grain it needed water and oil oil when it was fueled. We did a lot of oats, with no cab it was pretty dirty to operate. But it was a big stepup from the AC 66.

I only cab on this combine was a CBS Cab, Clear Blue Sky Cab.
This were so dusty, my Dad wore a respirator.

I bought a 45 combine when I got out of school (1989). It was an open station and had a 235 2 row corn head. I did enough custom work to pay for it that first fall. Bought a parts machine with a cab and added that for the next year. Lost it in a barn fire in 1994. I have owned 3 different 45's,a 55, 2 95's and a 105. Tom

John Deere published a book on harvesting corn with the new #10 corn head and a model 45 combine. I still might still have it. J.

My Dad came from a long line of hard working farmers. They all worked hard and died and never lived past 65. All had heart problems.
My dad died 30 years later, botched heart bypass surgery.

I went to college in 67 and have no desire to farm. Have no desire to live in city either.
