alternator terminal

Here's one I haven't seen before. What is the use of the little terminal just above the main output terminal? Has the letter R beside it. It's a re-manufactured Delco Remy. Thanks

If your talking about that little nipple looking thing above and to the right of the battery terminal that is one of the diodes if I remember right
 
Believe that is a tach signal, for an alternator driven tach, usually on diesels.

Don't touch it running, it's AC voltage!

achometer connection is likely.
just a connection to center of stator "Y" windings.
