Best front tires for use in the woods

I have a Ford 3000 with a Farmi 501 logging winch. Its only use is dragging logs out of the woods. Right now it has 6.00x16 Tri rib front tires. Its been muddy in the woods this past few weeks, and the front end wants to slide all over the place. Is there a better front tire for this use? Truck tires?

Funny you post about front tires in woods.
Just got my lawn mower front tire fixes after running over a thorn. 2 patches on the
same tube.
Does anyone make a tube that has slime built in?

I think bicycle tires do. That would be great for tractors if they did make a self
sealing tube.

Tri rib is as good as it gets for steering . Truck tires are to flat
they would be good if you put chains on the truck tires other
than that worthless

Tri rib steering tires in good condition are pretty good. Single rib rice steering tires might be your next step up. If your steering brakes are in good condition try to use them when turning.

I think any and all tires are susceptible to punctures. Whether if they have a tube or not. Just one of those crazy things we deal within life. Hope everyone is
having a great. Beautiful weather in the Deep South. Finally. Wingnut

i have seen pre slimed tubes at farm and fleet. i havent tried them tho. i run slime in my tubeless mower, atv and golf cart tires. i have a lot of honey locust and hawthorne trees.

Ok guess Ill stick with the Tri ribs then. It only sucks on comers when its muddy. The front wants to under steer and keep going straight. Or, I try to stay out of the ruts and I just slide back in. Gotta hit the corners just right.

Been out cutting a lot of ash. I think the ash borer beetle must finally be here. There are some parts of my property I havent been to in about 5 years, and a lot of the big ash trees are dead or dying. It sucks, because once theyre dead it makes it more sketchy cutting them down.
Ive been burning a bit of ash for firewood, and want to cut some for lumber before its all gone.

Thanks guys.

Winch on the 3 point and dragging logs. What do you have on front for weight? If none, adding some should help in the corners.

I have loaded tires and of course the winch on the back. On the front I have a Ford 730 loader (I think around 1,000 lbs). If Im really pulling on something hard with the winch I can get the front of the tractor to come off the ground. I have to really try though. It seems to be pretty balanced while pulling.

While dragging logs out of the woods the rear tires will spin before the front lifts

Tri rib are the best for what you're doing.

If flats are a problem, have them foamed. That will also add considerable weight.
But may also cause high speed wobble if you use the road gear.

Back when Daddy and I skidded logs a lot, we always had to steer with the brakes when loaded.

I have tubes in the front tires of my riding mower that come with slime pre installed.
They even have a slime color green cap on the valve stem.
They work well. Have not had one low tire since installing them.

Have not looked to hard for the rear tire size as I have not had a flat on the rear yet.

Your 3000 may be trying to tell you that for what you are trying to do with what you have hanging off the back that perhaps you should put some weight on the front.
