Tomorrow being 9-11. What were you doing that day? I was on my way to jury duty when the second building fell. Jury duty was cancelled. For some of you older ones. What were you doing the day President Kennedy was shot? I was working at my first factory job. Stan

On 9/11 i was at work and a girl in the office heard it on the radio so we turned on a tv and watched. When Kennedy was shot I was only 14 months old so don't know what I was doing.

9-11 I was drinking my morning coffee when Mom called and told me what was happening and to turn on the TV. I was in grammar school when Kennedy was shot. The teacher brought in a radio and we all listened.

I was in Muscatine Iowa picking up a load of ketchup at the Heinz plant, I was in 2nd grade when Kennedy was shot.

On 911 I was in the office preparing a lesson plan when an operations instructor came in to tell us about an accident.

When the president was killed i was in second grade in Tuscaloosa. I knew nothing about it until I got home and sat down to watch the news. Even at that age I was infatuated with broadcast news.

9-11 I was in my office when one of my investigators came in and said, you need to see what's going on. one tower had been hit and as we watched the second one was. Kennedy, in high school biology class

Loading tri-axles in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Found out the next day that a buddy of mine,(CPA) was a block and half away at a firehouse doing an audit on their Firemen's Relief Association. Said it took him 8 hours to get home to Flushing, NY.

Heard on the radio this morning that 9/11 is now a holiday in Afganistan.

I was working nights at the time. Woke up, turned on radio, they were talking about an airplane crashing into the WTC. Thinking small single engine plane I turned on TV while getting ready to go do farm chores and saw the second plane hit. Outrageous!!! the Murdexxs meant to kxxl a building Full of workers. NEVER FORGET.

Just going on break boss came in and said a plane hit a building, I made a casual remark that it has happened before. That night watching the news, I cried... for the loss of folks loved ones and knowing our lives would be forever changed .

I was working at my shop at home when my wife called me from work telling me the World Trade Center was burning. There was a World Trade Center building in Dallas and though that is what she was talking about so I went in the house and turned on the TV to see if there was any local news coverage. Then I found out what really was going on. I watched the news the rest of the day and saw live coverage when the second building was struck.

I was working as an artificial inseminator 20 years ago. I was driving thru a small village when I heard about the plane hitting the first tower on the radio and wondered if it was an accident or an attack. For some reason I needed to stop at the home of the co-worker who was off that day. He told me that the second tower had been hit. We new then that it was an attack. I did the rest of my calls in a state of numbness.
I was in 6th. grade when JFK was shot. It was an unusually warm day in Northern N.Y. We were outside for gym class. The phys. ed. teacher called us over to the edge of the field and gave us a lecture about rumors. Then we went into the gym and watched the news coverage on TV with the rest of the school until the buses came.

I had gotten ready for work and was watching news announcer Ann Curry describing the fire from the first plane and saw the second plane crash into the other tower behind her. gm

9/11 I was building a log home in NY Catskill mountains.
I don't remember for JFK, I was five.

At work and got the call from my warehouse guy doing a project in Arizona that morning. Gathered up everyone into the conference room where our TV was located. We saw the second plane hit. We were shocked and dismayed at what we saw. It was a tremendously sad day.
Was in ninth grade, PHY ED class, prepping for football when Kennedy was killed. Still recall the coach turning his head away from us....eyes flooded with tears.

Good morning 37 chief: When Kennedy was assassinated, I was in the US Army, in Germany. Our batallion had the purpose of operating and maintaining Sergeant field artillery missiles. We were in the field on a training exercise when word about Kennedy came out. Not much sleep that night!

Dennis M. in W. Tenn.

i was 6 when the jfk thing happened and can remember it. i was just out side playing and remember the parents saying he was shot. only had tube type radio then.

was going to say it it stuck in your mind when someone got shot back then, not like now its just an every day occurance.

9/11 I was on a company sales run and it was unfolding on the TV in the breakfast area of the hotel. Didnt make many customer calls that day. For JFK I was in 6th grade. Principal made the announcement over the intercom, they sent us home for the day.

On 9/11, I was working for an insurance company. I'd just sat down and my desk at 8:00 (9:00 NY time) and took a phone call from an auto repair shop in Brooklyn, NY. While we were talking business, a bunch of yelling broke out in the background. The fellow I was talking with went to investigate and came back saying an airplane had hit one of the World Trade Center. I kind of got a blow by blow account as it happened.

Then, our daughter, Amy, was Multimedia Manager at a Border's book store in Pentagon City, 3 blocks from the Pentagon. After the airplane hit the Pentagon, I tried calling her store and got a blank. After a half hour, I got a busy signal. Then I finally got through and the operator told me the store was closed. Amy had ridden the Metro to work that morning, and the Metro was shut down. For want of something better to do, she'd simply walked home with a co-worker who lived within walking distance of the store.

Amy got through to me on her cell phone about noon. I was on a different call at the time, but the Claims Manager knew the situation and held Amy on his phone until I was free.

Kennedy was shot two days before I was discharged from the Marine Corps. After lunch that day, the Colonel called me into his office and gave a last ditch attempt to talk me out of leaving the Corps. While we were talking, the Sergeant Major stuck his head in the door and said Kennedy had just been shot.

I remember being outside playing with my next door friend when his mother pulled in the drive way got out and told me to go tell my mom and grandmother that George Wallace had been shot.

We were having an extended stretch of beautiful weather here in the northeast around 9/11. Our youngest was still at home. He, his mother and I were building a grain bin. She came out of the house with the news of the towers after fetching a snack. I couldn't believe it. I didn't think an aircraft could bring a building down.

When Kennedy was shot I was sitting in third grade. I didn't understand what all the fuss was about. I don't recall it coming up at home at all.

I was teaching a computer course at corporate headquarters for Carlson Restaurants in Dallas.

[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]What were you doing the day President Kennedy was shot?[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]

I was in the 7th grade and had just finished lunch and was going to my Texas History class.

I was on my to work at a job site south of Minneapolis going around the loop when it came over the radio. I was listening to the KQRS morning show which was the first broadcast station to air news of it and first to call it a terrorist attack. The recording of that mornings show are now in the Smithsonian to commemorate the day. Every year they play that portion of the show on the exact anniversary of the event.

I was near the Pentagon in Arlington Va. and heard two loud crashes, one when the plane hit the ground and another when it hit the building. We had finished working on the renovation of that wing and the final inspection was not until the next day. That part of the building was nearly empty. It burned for days.

Headed to college wasnt all that wake when it came over the radio but remember exactly where I was just coming passed the upper campus

I was in Air Force Pilot Training in Big Spring, Tx when Kennedy was shot. Just finished morning flight schedule and evening class schedule was canceled.
When the Towers were hit I was on the floor of a retail hardware store in Farmers Branch, Tx when the wife called with the news.

For Kennedys' assassination, I was in the 2nd grade and they played the news over the intercom; I was not very affected by it: our family was not real big on following the news. I do remember seeing on TV, JFK JR standing and saluting during the funeral, though.
On 9/11 (it was beautiful weather), we had finished housing our tobacco the day before and I had put on my work boots to go to the barn and check on things. I never go through the house with my boots on, but for some reason I was strongly compelled to go back, and go into the living room and turn on the TV. The first tower was burning and then the 2nd tower was hit I stood there entranced for an hour and then finally sat on the couch and watched for long time, including the next 2 plane crashes. I had a bad feeling our(American) lives would never be the same, and they haven't been. I had a doctor's visit later that day and I remember saying that to the nurse and she felt the same. It was awful. Mark.

Northbound on I-80/35 along the west edge of Des Moines, in uniform on my way to work at Camp Dodge. Had already decided the 1st plane wasn't likely an accident and that the future would be interesting when word came of the 2nd plane. Deployed twice, trained and sent many others that went to harder places and did harder things more than twice, some as many as 5 times. Carrying a few faces and names that didn't come back. Glad it was just a few, wish it were none. All along it felt right in response to 9/11 and the thought that many hardships in taking the fight to far away places was preferable to changing our way of life here. Hard to watch some of the things unfolding these days. Seems like yesterday to me, know there's a generation that's grown since, don't have the same perspective, and probably look at people like me the way I used to look at WWII, Korean, or Vietnam vets: with respect but not understanding the passion/intensity for something that happened that long ago. God Bless America and all who love her.

I wasn't around for JFK but in 9/11 I was on my way to Jersey with a load of mexican food stuffs. I was on I80 In Ohio and heard it on the news, Liked real radio. I stopped at one of the stations and just caught the second plane hitting the tower. I called the Receiver and They said people still have to eat. There were no loads out of the east after that so dead headed home.

On 9-11 I was putting a metal roof on a house across town.I had come home to get some tools, when I heard something about it come over the radio. It was a local station with very little info.I went to the job and found the man and his wife sitting in their living room watching the news.I spent the rest of the day and part of the night sitting there with them watching the news. They had cable,I had rabbit ears on my TV set. When Kennedy was shot I was in the second grade. It was my sixth birthday, and the kids were all about to sing happy birthday to me.The principle ran into the room and whispered to the teacher, and they both ran out crying. The teacher leaving the room like that usually meant an opportunity for us kids to erupt, but we just didn't know how to react about the teacher running out crying.I remember all 18 of us kind of looking at each other, not knowing what was going on.

9-11 Just out of college working construction in the country. Never forget that.

Kennedy....I wasn't even a gleam in the old man's eye yet.

For 911, I was in the maintenance shop when my now ex wife called, said a plane had crashed into a building in NY. I was thinking accident, then she said another one had crashed! No accident, we were under attack!

When I got off the phone I noticed several employees were huddled around a radio on a Spanish station. They said planes had crashed somewhere in NY. I found a radio, several of us listened as the story unfolded.

For Kennedy, I was in 3rd grade, the principal came over the intercom, said the president had been shot. The teachers were huddling outside, crying and praying. Later the announcement came that he had died. I think we were sent home early that day.

Oh my goodness, I glanced at the title and thought it said Mammary check.
I was just leaving the cow barn after morning chores, reaching for the light switch, which would have shut off the lights and the radio. When a news announcer broke into the music and said a plane had crashed into the trade centre buildings. So I stood there a minute and listened. Then went to the house and turned on the TV, and watched the unbelievable footage for the next hour or two.

I was running a dozer at work. I was caught up and the boss man gave me money to go to a near by deli to get coffee for our crew. They had the tv on there. Will never forget it. By the time I got back to the site everyone had heard. Im not nearly old enough to remember Kennedy. I was born 12 years later ! Some moments in time you just never forget !

I was at work at my engineering office when word spread of the attack---the rest of the day spent with a group to set up an emergency management team for the county.

For Kennedy i was in my college dorm studying for a physics test the next day when it came over the radio

On 9-11 I was doing finish work in a new home when the Construction Supervisor came in and told us what happened. I never had a radio running when we had two or more working in the house. Went out to the truck and listened to the radio. Fellow worker called his father to confirm the news as he was watching on tv.

JFK shooting I was a month away from being born.

Vito

On 911 I was working at MSP Airport in MN when it came over the TV. We all sat and watched what happened. The airport was a ghost town for a while after. Ron MN

I was on the road. Had left a customers house turned the radio on and they were talking about the first tower. Kennedy i was 4 years old. Will never for get. Feel sorry for those families involved in 911. RB

I was in the second grade when Kennedy was killed. Mrs Young the music teacher came in and told Miss Mabel that the President had been killed. I watched the funeral on our black and white TV. 911 I was up to my eyeballs with work at the tire store when the owners wife called and told us. She brought down a TV and we watched as the buildings came down. I had read an article about the 1993 bombing of the WTC just a few months before the plane attack. I knew it was not an accident and Bin Laden had finally knocked the WTC down. The really odd thing after the attack was the skies were clear of contrails for weeks. I live under the routes between O'Hare and Denver. That and Hueys flying north to south with people hanging out the doors about a hundred feet up across my front yard.

When President Kennedy was shot, I was an over the road trucker and had just gotten off an exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, when the toll collector told me our President had been shot. Then on 9/11 I was in the hospital receiving a Chemo treatment while I was watching TV and saw the whole thing as my treatment took 4 hours.

I was in 8th grade on 9/11. I remember there wasnt a tv in the entire school that wasnt plugged in and on in that entire school. Everyone watching in awe. The only lessons in school that day was what an attack on American soil looked like. Obviously I wasnt even a seed when Kennedy was shot

9/11 I was building my new house on the farm. I went to the old house to get something and saw it on TV. President Kennedy, I was I the Catholic school, second grade with Sister Edith when we heard a knock on the door. Sister turned around and immediately had us kneel down & we started to pray.

When Kennedy was shot I had just got out of boot camp and was helping dad build his new house and heard it on the radio. When the WTC was bombed I had just come out of the back door of my business and seen this plane making a complete U turn and wondered why. Then the wife called me.

I retired a few months before 9-11 and was working on an old John Deere in the shop when I heard about it on the radio. Went in the house and was glued to the TV most of the day.

When Kennedy was shot I was stationed on my first ship, the USS Arcturis, AF-52. I had the afternoon off and was at my boss's house washing my old Corvette when his wife came out and told me what happened. Watched TV for a while and then decided I better head back to the ship.

9-11
My daughter-in-law was having a lengthy surgery on that day. We were in the waiting room and the TV's were on.

JFK
I was a freshman in a rural high school. Word of the assignation came over the school intercom. I didn't witness it, but in another class some fool stood up and cheered. A big farm boy got up and cold cocked the cheering traitor. He was down without a count. The school let out early, and I went to my after school job. My employer met me at the door and said his business was closed for the day in mourning of the national tragedy.

911- Wife dropped son at daycare then went to a seminar 3 hours away.
I was working and dropped off some plans with a customer where they had a TV to watch the second plane hit the tower.

Kennedy- 4th grade, in class. Remember lots of crying, most of the teachers. Someone brought a TV so we could catch all of the news.

I actually had a pretty good scare yesterday morning remembering 9-11.My mom and dad were standing in front of my shop talking, when we heard jets approaching. It got louder, then two fighters flashed over us, but no noise. Then a few seconds later came the boom.10 seconds later came another pair, then another. It was deafening. We thought after that at the speeds they were travelling it could have been one pair circling. My first thought was that there was another 9-11 event happening, and those boys were heading in to help. My dad looked unconcerned, so I asked him what he thought they were doing. He said those were the Thunderbirds, either coming in or practicing for the show tomorrow. I didn't even know they were performing at the old air base 14 miles from me today.I stood there for a minute, maybe two, thinking it was happening all over again.

I was loading a semi of hardwood for a pedal run in Chicago. I was on the road when the second one hit. The computers at the fuel stop were messed up. Down in the north suburbs the local airport had snow plows blocking the runways. Further south there was no air traffic at O Hara or Midway. The music channels on the radio stayed with reporting all day. I finished my run but it was one spooky day. Everyone was confused about what was going on

I will post my dads answers first and then mine.

For JFK my dad remembers being in the house with his mom with KDPQ portland, Oregon station on the radio and having the normal radio broadcast interrupted by the words, the president has been shot
Later that day when when dads dad had come home from custom farming 10 Mile's away with Case L, he reported he had been told by a lady who walked across the dusty field to tell him.

As for 9/11, dad saw on tv as it happened and had a bad feeling right away.

I am too young for the JFK question as I was in high school senior year when 9/11. I picked up a cousin each morning as we both went to same school. My dad had called the cousin before I got there to tell us to turn on the tv. We knew something was wrong but didnt want to get in trouble for late to school. When we arrived at high school, the principle was standing in driveway and met each car one by one to say school closed, go home

Kennedy No loss just another bolshevik was gone. NY Don't remember. Kennedy Was sick of all the funeral stuff. Nothing but that on. I was about 4 at the time. No loss when his brother and uncle gone either. Kicked out of England for illegal booze and were rum runners here . How they got their money.

I was standing in my bedroom getting ready to go to my great granddad's funeral. When I turned the TV on I it was just after the first plant had crashed.
