When will winter blend be sold?
I know this has been answered in the past. I can't remember what I had for supper last night. Not remember what happened last year. Sorry I'd asking upsets anyone
 
Billy is right, the best way to know is to ask the supplier. Around here, they generally start selling winter blend in late November.
 
I own a Fuel Distributorship in Alabama. I hired a driver from a closed distributorship in town. He told me he had been advising Customers to order Diesel before the terminals switched over to Winter fuels and price went up .20 per gallons. Terminals do not switch over to winter in Alabama, so no reason for a .20 per gallon increase. He wanted to argue with me that they do, because his former employer would not cheat any one. He no longer works for me.
 
Just walked in the door from accepting a full top off of all tanks but only took it because my supplier called and said it would go up 20 cents in 10 days but we do not get winter blend as you call it here same fuel year around.
 
In N MN they don't start blending until there is cold weather forecast, because it costs more, that is sometime in the first half of November. That's getting too late for me, as we leave for the South about Nov 15, so last year I just bought 5 gallons of No 1 in October, that seems to be available year around at some stations. I don't intend to use our tractor in cold weather, but I want it ready to go if needed. One year it was -18F during deer season, about Nov 5th, and I sometimes use the tractor to haul deer out and hang them from the loader
 
Depends upon where you live.

Makes no difference if you use your machines little as do I.

I start throwing anti gel additives into the tanks well before last fall usage.

Just ask you supplier. Usually though, it starts as soon as it gets around 40 Degrees or so.
November through February, more or less,

I just put a additive in my storage tank when it starts getting cold. Don't seem to have any problems. It gets below zero now and then where I live.
 


I could be wrong but I have heard that it gets noticeably colder in Minnesota in the winter than in Alabama, so I doubt that there is one date that is the same everywhere. I think that it is much earlier in the northern states.
 
It willl probably start getting switched in the next month or so and get stronger as the winter comes. I never worried about it and never had a problem.
 
Here in SE Michigan, they supposedly switch around November first. But there's no reason to wait to buy fuel; dump some anti-gel additive in your tank when temperatures start to drop just to be safe.

As several below have posted. This is a question for your fuel supplier. Different places, different dealers will have different answers. Some places don't even have winter blend.
 



Even sotx goes to winter fuel. A truck with 100 gal fuel tanks can buy fuel and be 600 miles north before refueling. Therefore all the suppliers go to the winter version. And yes, even in so tx, we see the loss of mpgs when this happens. My diesel passat normally gets 44 to 54 mpg... winter fuel means it drops to 36 to 44 mpgs at best...Every year, like clockwork. In the big trucks its harder to see the difference between 6.7mpg and 6.9 mpg pulling a 25k load. And the big trucks only roll with trailer on them.
