Second cutting?

I wasnt sure where else to post this so I figured this was the best.

We have been debating whether to try and get a second cutting this year or not. The field is mainly fescue with some other grasses and clover mixed in. If we do, it will be this weekend or next depending on the weather. While we know it will help clean the field up, our concerns are if it will get enough regrowth and if it would hurt the yield next year. We fertilized it this spring and plan to do so again next spring. If we dont get a second cutting, Ill definitely clip it before winter. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Don't know where you are but I do a 2nd cutting most years the first par of Sept and I always have a good hay crop the next year and been doing it for 40 or so years that way. I'm in Missouri

Grasses are annuals, they die back to root stock unless the temp never gets to freezing. Some die back even then, So cutting it will not harm it, it will just make a bit more hay in the barn. Jim

Cut it, it's darn near impossible to kill fescue. We just finished out third cutting of grass and finally got some rain so may try a forth. I have cut into November.

Fescue is a perennial and here where we are, you would get a second cutting and it will grow back a bunch before cold weather.
