stand alone power unit

I could kick myself but long time ago I got rid of a what I call a stand alone power unit, But I don't know if that is what it is you call these things,it was a gas motor that sat on the ground and had a belt pulley that my grandpa used to run the sawmill.
I wished I had it to rebuild, it sure would beat the hell out of my brothers 1986 toyota celica he used for a while to run the mill
my question is What do you call these things?
thanks in advance

Depends. It may have been a hit and miss or it may have been a later governed gasoline engine.

Dad made out out of a Cub engine (sorry, Grandpa Love) mounted on a cart. Used a Rockford in-and-out clutch and a PTO shaft. Mostly ran the paddle style elevator. Hand crank, and a miserable esso bee to start, often wound up just hooking the John Deere B to the elevator.

(quoted from post at 14:08:09 08/27/21) Its called a stationary engine.
Iwas making it more than what it is! thanks
ouldn't cost much either if you could go back in time.

yup I want that price, hell give me two they are small, thanks
I think the one Grandpa had was a Kohler

I had an LAE Case Power Unit on my sawmill for a few years.
403 cubic inch 4 cylinder at 1100 RPM.
Stout old machine.
Hand cranked it most of the time.

I have couple of 172 Fords, 1 gas and 1 diesel. Gas needs carb and some small parts . Diesel is stuck it has most of the tin.

I had a 510 Massey combine which I scrapped . I salvaged the 327 industrial (chevy) engine , the jack shaft that has the machine clutch and vary speed drive , the
vary speed pulley on the gearbox and threshing cylinder . I cut the rasp bars and everything to the bare shaft and mounted a flat pulley to the shaft . I
reassembled everything on a channel iron frame and this is what I power my sawmill with . I left the original governor on the engine to maintain a controlled
speed . I have in the past used a Moline U , a 400 International and a R Moline stationary motor but this new power plant has a lot more horsepower and I am able
to maintain the right R P M at the blade . At idle it runs about 1000 RPM and run speed about 1800 rpm I adjusted the RPM at the blade with the variable speed
drive as you would for threshing a crop. On a 45 John Deere combine the engine can be taken off as a unit, engine radiator gas tank all stay together and would
make a nice power unit . Both of these power units are easy to work on and parts can be gotten at parts stores.
