Electric Winch Question

I ave an 8000 lb winch on my trailer that you have seen to pull tractors and farm equipment on with.
It has the steel cable.
I think I will change over to the synthetic rope one day.
Easier on the hands.

synthetic is nice and light, but zero humor for rubbing on anything, and nothing sharp, more of a Sunday mall Jeep riding thing to me, my cable ends up rubbing on everything

I'm currently waiting for a WARN Zeon 12000 to arrive. It'll be 4 weeks. I went with synthetic this time because I'm going to use as a multi mount. It's about 20lb lighter than cable version to carry. Also I have a cable winch on my atv and am hoping rope is a little easier to get back on the drum properly.

Get a Harbor Fright Badlands Apex winch. Best deal on a 12k winch out there. Synthetic rope is great, light weight and no wire cuts, but you can save a bit by going with cable.

I have one with synthetic rope hidden in a tool box on the front of my trailer. With the wireless remote, you just climb on any hulk youre hauling and steer it on- flat tires, roots growing through the undercarriage and locked rear axles are no problem!

When all the pros equip their tow trucks with synthetic rope,I'll consider changing but til then I'll stick with steel cable.

I ran into that dilemma when I needed a winch on my tractor. A higher up in Warn was asked that question and said if he were hanging off a cliff with his Jeep he would prefer steel. I bought an American Warn winch with a steel cable. Mine is 8,000 lbs. No regret.

Going to depend on what you are doing with it. If you figure you'll be using it over rock and metal, get wire. If you think it'll mostly be on non-sharp stuff, rope is a lot lighter and easier to handle. I have rope and it works great for skidding logs. Obviously you put a choker around the log and then hitch to the winch line, just like with steel cable.

You can always switch the rope out to cable if you don't like it. Winch cable is lots less expensive than the rope.

All the pro tow trucks use steel because synthetic rope should not be contaminated with grease and oil.

And the vast majority of rollback and conventional tow trucks do not have oil and grease free decks, etc.
