First let me say thanks to all of you for your help and following along with us. Now that Ive said that. IT RUNS!!!! We hooked everything up this morning and gave it a shot and the engine wouldnt even try to start but it would roll over fine. Proving I was wrong about the starter being bad. We were getting fuel, we had spark, and it has compression, so why wont it try to start? We brought number 1 up on top dead center and I checked the rotor position. Guess what? The spark plug wires were on the cap 180 degrees out! I put them on the same way the old ones came off. I took for granted they were in the right order I should have verified! We corrected that and tried again. The engine made about a half of a revolution and kicked right off! I think we were both surprised! This was just a first start up. Now that we know it runs we can move on the figuring out the correct wiring to the starter, and seeing if will actually go in gear and drive. Thanks again. To be continued

1939farmall. Im sitting over here just as happy as can be for yall. I know the feeling well because believe it or not but because my helper is my wife, wed been working on my JD 435 diesel for some time and when she cranked up for the first time that I owned it we about lost it. Why because Im not that great of a mechanic. Lol. A lot of hooting and hollering when she cranked off. Im so glad all of yalls hard work paid off. I really like the way you are documenting this project. Your boys face says it all. Thanks for the post sir. Wingnut
 
if useing a 6 volt battery, you will need heaver battery cables. as 6 volt takes 2 times the amps as 12 volt.
the skinny 12 volt cables just dont do it.
